摘要： An authentication device that the user wears reads biometrics information and executes individual authentication by verification. Only when the individual authentication has been successfully performed, authentication with an external unit (such as a server) can be started. Then, only when both the individual authentication based on the biometrics information and the mutual authentication between the external unit (such as a server) and the authentication device have been successfully performed, subsequent data processing, such as payment processing, can be executed. Therefore, even if a fraudulent third party uses a stolen authentication device, because the party cannot satisfy the start condition of authentication with the external server or a PC, fraudulent transactions and other illegitimate behaviors are effectively prevented.

摘要： A personal identification apparatus is disclosed by which personal identification can be performed making use of an impulse response obtained from a pulse signal transmitted by a living organism. A pulse generation section generates a pulse, and a speaker applies the pulse amplified by an amplifier to a finger of a user touching with the speaker and a microphone. The pulse signal is transmitted to the microphone with an attenuation characteristic that depends upon, for example, a transmission distance that depends upon the length and the thickness of the finger and characteristics of the living organism such as the thickness of the flesh and the bone density. A data synthesis processing section synthesizes the pulse and an impulse received by the microphone and amplified by an amplifier. A template recording section records a template to be used as a reference of discrimination in an authentication process together with a user ID and so forth. A comparison discrimination processing section refers to the template recording section to discriminate whether or not an impulse response inputted from a memory coincides with one of templates of registered users.

摘要： A contents provider stores contents data in a container in a format which can only be decoded with a key distributed from an EMD service center, and transmits the container to a service provider. The service provider adds pricing information and the like and distributes this to a user home network. The user home network pays charges to the EMD service center based on the pricing information, receives the key, and decodes the contents data. Information regarding the number of times which copying is permitted is contained in the secure container, and the number of times permitted is increased each time charges are paid, thereby enabling copying to other media and the like. It is impossible to make copies from a container simply copied, or in cases where in the number of permitted times of copies has been used up. Thus, contents data can be distributed in a format wherein copying of contents data can be controlled including the number of copies made.

摘要： Information for imposing copy generation restrictions is superimposed in the format of an XDS signal that is according to the standard of a closed caption broadcast so as to permit performance of copy generation restriction in response to such information without the need to change the structure of a TV receiver. Copy Generation Restriction Management System (CGMS) information is inserted in the format of the XDS signal defined in association with the closed caption signal superimposed on an analog TV signal at the 21-st line in a vertical blanking interval. The XDS signal is composed of a clock run-in interval, a start bit code, and a 16-bit digital signal which is divided into two bytes respectively representing first and second characters. The XDS signal and the CGMS information can be recognized from the start bit code and the first and/or second character. A recording apparatus recognizes the CGMS information on the 21-st line of a second or even-numbered field so as to perform the corresponding copy generation restriction.

摘要： The television signal recording/reproducing system digitally records and reproduces television signals composed of a luminance signal, a chrominance signal and a resolution compensation signal included in predetermined television scanning lines. The system includes a Y/C separating circuit for separating the luminance signal Y from the chrominance signal C. The luminance signal Y and the resolution compensation signal are combined onto a first signal line. A demodulating circuit demodulates the chrominance signal into a color difference signal and outputs the demodulated signal to a second signal line. A digital video signal recorder digitally process the signals on the first signal line separately from the signals on the second signal line and records the digitally processed signals. In this manner, the resolution compensation signal is processed with the luminance signal and the resolution compensation signal can be accurately recorded.

摘要： The present invention relates to an apparatus and a method for protecting the copyright of an information signal recorded on a recording medium such as a DVD (Digital Video Disc) for presenting the signal to the user or an information signal transmitted through transmission media such as the Internet and for preventing an illegal copy of such an information signal. To put it in detail, information on copyright protection which is read out from the recording medium and information on copyright protection which is encrypted to make the information difficult to alter is used. If both of the information do not match each other, the information on copyright protection is judged to have been altered in an attempt to play back the information signal which is obtained as a result of an illegal copy operation in which case, the operation to play back the information signal is disabled.
