摘要： Techniques are described to transmit multimedia content to a mobile station using a combination of a mobile/cellular network as well as a TV Whitespace (TVWS) network. Scalable video coding can be used to transmit a baseline layer of multi-media content using the mobile/cellular network and one or more enhancement layers over the TVWS channels. Joint source-channel coding can be used to adjust the transmission scheme used by mobile/cellular and/or TVWS based on end user experience.

摘要： Time-frequency coding in a multi-band ultra-wideband system is generally described. In this regard a hopping code agent is presented to select a frequency hopping code for encoding and decoding from a set of predetermined FHC's for communicating with other devices in a multi-band ultra-wideband (MB-UWB) network, wherein the FHC defines a sequence of two or more pulses over two or more frequencies and wherein the FHC's include a time slot that contains no transmission. Other embodiments are also disclosed and claimed.

A signaling mechanism is provided to make application-layer parameters of a multimedia application to be accessible in one or more network interfaces including an air interface, an access network interface, and a core network interface. Also, the application-layer parameters may be included in quality of service (QoS) class definitions to make the application-layer parameters accessible at the one or more network interfaces. The signaling mechanism and inclusion of application-layer parameters into the QoS class definitions is to enable the QoE-aware link adaptation, resource allocation, joint source channel coding based cross-layer optimizations.

Such distortion-awareness and associated joint source-channel coding ideas to support link adaptation over MIMO channels may affect system architectures for MIMO systems. CQI feedback mechanisms may ensure that these distortion-aware MIMO link adaptation techniques are applicable for downlink channels, under different forms of link adaptation, including MS-controlled vs. BS-controlled link adaptation, long-term vs. dynamic link adaptation, and presence vs. absence of distortion-awareness at the BS, for different kinds of video coding including single-layer compression and layered compression.
