    • A method of delivering promotional content to a navigation application in a mobile device is provided. Knowledge of user interest inferred from a query and expected future location is used to render an advertisement in the navigation application. The advertisement is selected based on a location associated with a query received at the mobile device. In one design, advertisements are selected and rendered in a product-navigation application in a mobile device, which is used to determine the location of a product-choice. The advertisement for a promoted product is preferably rendered such that it represents the actual physical location of the promoted product in the store.

    • A method, system, and apparatus for squelching a signal in telecommunications systems. The apparatus includes a filter, two power detectors, a divider, two comparators, a logic gate, and a gain control block. The apparatus receives an input signal, and the power of the signal is detected. The input signal is also filtered to pass only the noise portion of the signal, and the power of the filtered signal is detected. A ratio between the filtered signal power and the input signal power is determined. A first comparator receives the filtered signal power and a second comparator receives the ratio of the filtered signal power and the input signal power. The logic gate receives the outputs from the first and second comparators. The gain control block receives as inputs the logic gate's output and the input signal to the apparatus. The gain control block may attenuate the input signal based on the logic gate's output. The gain control block generates the output signal of the apparatus.

    • A system and method are provided for compensating for an I/Q mismatch of a receiver in a mobile terminal. In general, the receiver and a transmitter of the mobile terminal are formed on a single substrate. A transmit signal is transmitted via the transmitter. Due to leakage through the substrate, the transmit signal is provided to one or more points in the receiver. One of these points is an input of the amplifier circuitry. A gain of the amplifier circuitry is modulated during reception of the transmit signal such that an amplified signal provided by the amplifier circuitry is offset from the carrier frequency of the transmit signal by a known frequency offset. The amplified signal is downconverted to provide a quadrature output signal. Processing circuitry processes frequency components of the quadrature output signal corresponding to the known frequency offset to determine the I/Q mismatch of the receiver.

    • In accordance with embodiments of the present invention, a receiver system is provided with a variable gain mixer circuit that is advantageous over current architectures used in wireless communication systems. The use of a variable gain mixer circuit simplifies the receiver architecture resulting in the elimination of additional circuit blocks and a reduction in complexity and cost. Moreover, one embodiment of the present invention includes a mixer circuit comprising a mixer core, a bias circuit coupled to the mixer core for providing a bias current, and a variable impedance network. The mixer core receives input signals and generates output currents that are coupled to the variable impedance network. Each of the output currents are selectively coupled to a voltage output node through a variable impedance. Variable gain is established by varying the impedance between the output currents of the mixer core and the voltage output node.

    • Various circuits and methods provide for dc offset reduction that is effective under varying circuit and signal conditions. The offset signal is first sampled and stored, and then subtracted from the signal path via a programmable transconductance amplifier that is placed in a feedback loop during offset reduction. By designing the transconductance amplifier to have programmable gain, the offset reduction technique is capable of compensating for variations in the magnitude of the offset signal. In one embodiment, an amplifier is placed in the feedback path in series with the programmable transconductance amplifier to optimize the trade off between noise and accuracy of offset reduction.

The apparatus estimates the signal power and background noise of a first input signal and a second input signal during approximately the same period. The apparatus further provides at least one control signal based on the result of one or more determinations. These determinations may include whether the estimated signal power of at least one of the first and second input signals exceeds a threshold value; whether the estimated signal power of the first input signal exceeds the sum of a first threshold value and the estimated background noise of the first input signal; and whether the estimated signal power of the second input signal exceeds the sum of a second threshold value and the estimated background noise of the second input signal. Other embodiments for use with two-way communication devices and related methods are also disclosed.
