    • A car reversal radar automatically modifies the sensor scanning range and the method of the same. The car reversal radar includes a central processing unit that has predetermined compensation value and threshold distance. When the car reversal radar starts, its surrounding environment is recorded into an initial detecting value. The initial detecting value is compared with a subsequent detecting value recorded for the environment when the car is being backed. When the subsequent detecting value is greater than the sum of the initial detecting value and the compensation value, the distance between an obstacle and the ultrasonic sensor of the car is compared with the threshold distance. If the former is greater than the latter, the compensation value is increased. Therefore, the obstacle has to even closer to the ultrasonic sensor to reduce the sensitivity of the ultrasonic sensors at the tail and to prevent incorrect actions.

    • A method and apparatus for object detection and ranging is disclosed. A returned signal is sequentially received by one of several sensors mounted on a host vehicle. Each one in turn initiates successive sampling to collect a series of returned signal values, which are then compared with corresponding threshold values previously saved in a memory device to determine whether any object is in the way of the vehicle backing up and also to estimate the relative distance from the object. The control circuit in accordance with the invention includes a processor, which together with a channel selector establishes a sequence of signal transmission and reception each time by one of several sensors. A sampled signal is first passed through an A/D converter to become digital, and then it is input to the processor for object detection and ranging computation.

    • An ultrasonic sensor assembly for a vehicle reversing radar has an ultrasonic sensor (10) with two electric wires (12). A sleeve (20) is made of rubber material and has a chamber (22) receiving the sensor (10). A cone-shaped opening (24) is defined at a front end of the chamber (22). A guide wave cone (30) is provided at the center of the cone-shaped opening (24) and abuts the sensor (10). By using the sensor assembly, the vehicle reversing radar can have a high precision with a long detectable distance in a concentrated area.

    • A back-up detecting device with a distance reset capability has a controller with an intensity analysis program and a distance reset function. When an ultrasonic transceiver is installed underneath a vehicle chassis forward of the rear end, a distance correction called a distance pad is measured, calculated and stored in memory by the distance reset function. The distance pad is the distance between the ultrasonic detector and the rear end of the vehicle. When the distance reset capability is used to determine a distance pad for each ultrasonic transceiver, the back-up detecting device presents accurate distances to objects without regard to the structure of the vehicle body without having to alter system hardware or software. Thus the back-up detecting device is suitable for large vehicles of varied shapes and sizes.

    • A vehicle backup detector that indicates a distance from an obstruction comprises multiple ultrasonic transducers, a central processing unit, memory, a video camera, a graphics superimposing module and a display device. The ultrasonic transducers emit and receive ultrasonic waves. The central processing unit defines multiple sensing coordinates in a sensing area in which ultrasonic waves are transmitted and calculates a position of the obstruction. A video camera records images behind the vehicle. Before a vehicle door is open, a detecting signal near the outer side of the door is emitted and its detection status is recorded.     • A parking sensor apparatus has a microprocessor and multiple ultrasonic sensors. The microprocessor uses a time division transmitting method to control only one ultrasonic sensor to output an ultrasonic detecting signal. In addition, after one ultrasonic detecting signal is output, all ultrasonic sensor are controlled to be in receiving status. Therefore, the microprocessor receives the reflected detecting signals from the ultrasonic sensors and obtains preset distances defined between adjacent ultrasonic sensors to calculate the shortest distance between the vehicle and the obstacle. Further, since only one ultrasonic sensor outputs the ultrasonic detecting signal at a time point, the microprocessor clearly determines that the reflected detecting signal is corresponding to the present ultrasonic sensor, that is controlled to output the ultrasonic detecting signal.
