    • A method and an apparatus are provided for merging two meshes whose density differs from each other so as to avoid unnatural appearance. A first mesh and a second mesh that differ from each other in density are merged by the following procedure. Edge length of a portion that becomes a boundary between the first and second meshes is determined, size of a first group of polygons including the edge of the portion is determined based on the determined length and size of a second group of polygons is adjusted so that an adjustment ratio is smaller as a distance between a position of each of the second group of polygons and the portion is greater, the first and second group of polygons being part of polygons structuring the first and second meshes, and the first and second meshes in each of which the polygons are adjusted are merged.

    • The present invention provides a three-dimensional chart, a parameter acquiring method and an information processing device that are used for carrying out camera calibration in a wide range with high precision. For this reason, a plurality of unit graphic forms the sizes of which are coded by using different cross-ratios are placed on side faces of a three-dimensional chart. The cross-ratios of unit graphic forms are calculated from a picked-up image of the three-dimensional chart, and by collating these with actual values, the position and orientation of the image-pickup point are determined. The shifting average of the heights of the unit graphic forms is made approximately proportional to the distance from the apex so that it is possible to reduce the limitation of image-pickup distances. A movable camera is attached to a subject-use camera, and upon picking up an image of the subject, an image of the three-dimensional chart is also picked up simultaneously. Based upon the position and orientation of the movable camera found out by the above-mentioned sequence of image-pickup processes and the relative position and orientation between the two cameras that have been preliminarily found, it is possible to determine the position and orientation of the subject-use camera.

    • Disclosed herein are a method for generating volume data from images of an object viewed from diverse view points. This method comprises the steps of: (a) in each of discrete coordinate positions within a coordinate system for rendering a volume, obtaining a value corresponding to the distance to the boundary of a viewed volume defined by the contour of the image of said object and by the point of view of said image; and (b) in each of said coordinate positions, on the basis of a plurality of said values obtained for said images of said object, determining a value corresponding to the distance to the object surface and then maintaining said value in a manner corresponded to said coordinate position. In the method, multi-valued data can be assigned to each vertex or lattice point, and therefore, a small number of voxels can represent precisely the three-dimensional shape.
