    • Systems and methods for performing efficient blind decoding. A first plurality of decision metrics corresponding to a first repetition of periodic decoding information is stored. The first plurality of decision metrics is grouped into sequential portions. A plurality of combined versions of the sequential portions is stored into combining buffers arranged in sequence. Each combined version is associated with a different sequence of timing information. A first of the plurality of combined versions stored in a first of the combining buffers is combined with a second version of a second plurality of decision metrics that corresponds to a second repetition of the periodic decoding information. The second version is associated with timing information adjacent in the timing information sequence to the timing information associated with the first combined version. The data is decoded based on information in the combining buffers.

    • In a coking process, coal to be coked is preheated in a cascaded whirling bed drier into which the coal is charged from above and exposed to an indirect heat transfer while whirling in a coal-stream mixture. Hot gas applied to the heating pipes in respective cascades of the drier is branched off from the total amount of hot gases discharged from a dry cooler in which hot coke from the coke oven is cooled by recirculating cooler gas constituted by a partial gas stream discharged from the cascades of the drier and reunited with the other partial stream subject to a heat exchange for generating steam. Steam from the whirling beds is discharged from the cascaded drier, separated from the entrained dust particles, and then the excessive steam is drained in a branch conduit and the remaining steam is compressed and reintroduced into the lowermost whirling bed in the drier.

    • A method and system for the sensorless estimation of the states of the mechanical subsystem of a motor are disclosed. In particular, the method and system split the estimation problem into two sub-problems: the estimation of motor parameters as a function of position, and the determination of the states of the mechanical subsystem of the motor using the estimated parameters via a state observer. Motor current and PWM voltage in a polyphase system is measured or otherwise determined and converted into current and voltage in α-β coordinates. A least square estimator is constructed that uses the voltage and current in α-β coordinates and provides an estimate of the motor parameters, and in particular, the inductances of the motor, which are a function of the rotor position. These estimated inductances are used to drive a state observer whose dynamics have been selected to provide as an output the state of the mechanical subsystem of the motor, and in particular, the position, velocity, and acceleration of this subsystem.
