    • The present invention provides a ubiquitous solution for providing charge-related voice service such as voice announcement and interactive voice response in an IP multimedia subsystem. In particularly, an online charging system (10) detects the subscriber account profile of a user terminal (51) to determine whether there is an event for providing an end user with voice announcement or interactive voice response (S203). If there is such voice announcement event or interactive voice response event, the online charging system (10) will enter “redirection state” and send an instruction (S204) to an online charging client (20) for instructing the online charging client (20) to redirect the user terminal to a first server (30) for providing voice announcement or interactive voice response such that the first server (30) provides the user terminal (51) with voice announcement or interactive voice response. The online charging client (20) may comprise network gateway, session initiation protocol application server or media resource function controller, etc.

    • Communication networks and methods are disclosed for performing online charging in LTE/EPC communication networks. In an LTE/EPC communication network, one or more LTE network elements connect to an Online Charging System (OCS) over an enhanced interface. The LTE network element that is serving a session for a mobile device triggers on a charging event, and generates a credit request message (e.g., Diameter CCR). The LTE network element identifies access information for the session indicating the type of access for the mobile device to the LTE/EPC communication network, and inserts the access information in the credit request message. Through the enhanced interface, the LTE network element is able to transmit the credit request message to the OCS with the access information. The access information may then be used in the OCS to determine a more accurate charging rate for the session.

    • IMS gateway systems and methods are disclosed for providing mid-session status checking in an IMS network. An IMS gateway system described herein includes a budget control system and a status checking system. When a session has been established in the IMS network, the budget control system performs budget control for the session. Concurrently, the status checking system periodically checks the status of the session. Responsive to the status checking system determining that the session is active, the budget control system continues to perform the budget control for the session. Responsive to the status checking system determining that the session has terminated, the budget control system terminates the budget control for the session. By periodically checking the status of the session, the IMS gateway system advantageously avoids a runaway changing scenario in the IMS network.
