    • A novel image processing system includes a pixel position indicator and a pixel inserting unit. The pixel position indicator is configured to indicate insertion positions in the image data. The pixel inserting unit is configured to enlarge a size of the image data by inserting an additional pixel at each of the insertion positions and accordingly shifting the original pixels in a given direction. The additional pixel has a value lower than a given threshold. Each insertion position is at an approximate center of an area formed of pixels having values higher than the given threshold. A novel image forming apparatus incorporates such an image processing system and an electrophotographic system. The electrophotographic system is configured to form an image by irradiating a photoconductive surface with a laser beam according to the processed image data.

    • An image processing apparatus for performing image reduction correction on target image data corresponding to pixels, includes a deletion position specifying unit configured to specify, as deletion positions of deletion pixels in the target image data, predetermined positions in image regions including the pixels having gradation values that are more than or equal to a predetermined density; and a pixel deleting unit configured to delete the deletion pixels at the deletion positions specified by the deletion position specifying unit, and to shift the pixels subsequent to the deletion pixels in a reduction direction as the deletion pixels are deleted.

    • An authentication method performed by an authentication device to authenticate a user includes an authentication-use image generating step of generating an authentication-use image including authentication-use information corresponding to an image expressing one or more characters and/or symbols which is provided on a background, wherein an edge formed by a difference in image density does not exist between the background and the image expressing the characters and/or the symbols; an authentication-use image presenting step of presenting, to the user, the authentication-use image generated at the authentication-use image generating step; and an authentication step of performing authentication by comparing character and/or symbol information input by the user based on the authentication-use image presented at the authentication-use image presenting step, with the characters and/or the symbols in the authentication-use image.
