摘要： Methods and compositions for repair and regeneration of neural tissue are provided. Particularly, methods and compositions for promoting neural tissue wound healing and treatment of traumatic brain injury using porous crystalline calcium carbonate particles and a biocompatible polymer, for example compositions comprising porous coral exoskeleton particles in combination with a biocompatible polymer, and optionally comprising neural growth agents and platelets for application to damaged neural tissue for enhancing neural regrowth and recovered functionality, in, for example, but not limited to, traumatic brain injury (TBI).

摘要： An extracellular matrix-modified decellularized nerve scaffold and use thereof are provided. The extracellular matrix-modified decellularized nerve scaffold is prepared from a natural porcine optic nerve. The scaffold has a plurality of longitudinal channels and a plurality of transversal foramina intercommunicated with the longitudinal channels, which have relatively uniform diameters and relatively even distributions in the scaffold. The extracellular matrix-modified decellularized optic nerve scaffold of the present invention changes the poor microenvironment of existing decellularized material that lacks cell growth factors and nutrients, supports seeded cells to form neural networks in vitro or in vivo, and enables the connection of ascending nerve fibers or descending nerve fibers of the injured spinal cord to their target cells after transplantation.

摘要： Discrete, individualized carbon nanotubes having targeted, or selective, oxidation levels and/or content on the interior and exterior of the tube walls are claimed. Such carbon nanotubes can have little to no inner tube surface oxidation, or differing amounts and/or types of oxidation between the tubes' inner and outer surfaces. These new discrete carbon nanotubes are useful in plasticizers, which can then be used as an additive in compounding and formulation of elastomeric, thermoplastic and thermoset composite for improvement of mechanical, electrical and thermal properties.

摘要： The subject invention pertains to materials and methods for processing tissue to produce a natural, acellular replacement tissue that is immunocompatible with a recipient. According to the subject invention, harvested tissue is subjected to wash solutions wherein only amphoteric detergent(s) are used (e.g., anionic detergents are excluded). Following extraction by amphoteric detergent(s), the tissue is washed with a buffer system to facilitate the clearance of cellular components and detergent. In one embodiment, the subject invention pertains to a replacement tissue that is a nerve graft that supports axonal regeneration, guides axons toward the distal nerve end and/or is immunologically tolerated. Preferably, the nerve graft retains essential extracellular matrix scaffolding as well as biological components that promote nerve regeneration through the nerve graft.

摘要： The problem of attaching a donor nerve stump to a recipient nerve for an end-to-side coaptation is solved by the use of a tissue connector. The tissue connector can have a body for receiving the donor nerve stump and one or more overflaps for attaching the tissue connector with the donor nerve stump therein to the epineurium on the side of the recipient nerve. Sutures can also be used to secure the tissue connector and nerves in place.

摘要： The invention relates to a cell sheet construct for neurovascular reconstruction. The cell sheet construct has a vascular endothelial cell layer and a neural stem cell layer, and the two layers are physically in direct contact with each other, where the vascular endothelial cell layer forms branching vasculatures, and the neural stem cell layer differentiates into neurons. The invention also relates to a method for manufacturing the cell sheet construct, having the following steps: culturing vascular endothelial cells on a substrate to form a vascular endothelial cell layer, seeding neural stem cells on the vascular endothelial cell layer to make the neural stem cells be physically in direct contact with the vascular endothelial cell layer, and culturing the neural stem cells and the vascular endothelial cell layer to differentiate into neurons and branching vasculatures to form a cell sheet construct.

摘要： A hybrid bioelectrical interface (HBI) device can be an implantable device comprising an abiotic component operable to transmit charge via electrons or ions; a biological component interfacing with the neural tissue, the biological component being sourced from biologic, biologically-derived, or bio-functionalized material; and a conjugated polymer component that together provide a way to chronically interface living neural tissue with electronic devices for extended durations (e.g. greater than 10 years). In some embodiments, conjugated polymers provide a functional electrical interface for charge transfer and signal transduction between the nervous system and an electronic device (e.g. robotic prosthetic limb, retinal implant, microchip).
