    • A dust collecting installation for collecting airborne dust adjacent to a moving web. An elongate duct extends transversely to the direction of movement of the web and is positioned adjacent to the web. The duct is shaped and positioned so as to form an opening into the duct that receives at least a proportion of a layer of dust laden air adjacent to and moving with the web surface, and dust laden air is in turn withdrawn from the duct. The duct is positioned and so shaped that air flow into the opening is augmented by a jet of air generated where the moving surface converges with and comes into contact with a surface of a roller which the web passes over and contacts.

    • The invention concerns an apparatus for the contactless cleaning of a conveying element which is designed to receive rod-shaped articles in the tobacco-processing industry, including at least one ionising element for removing electrostatic charges on the surfaces of the conveying element to be cleaned, at least one rotating compressed-air nozzle for loosening and removing contaminants located on surfaces of the conveying element, and a suction device for extracting the contaminated outgoing air, characterized in that associated with the apparatus is a housing for forming a cleaning chamber at least partially shielded from the environment, whereby the cleaning chamber has an inlet opening and an outlet opening for the conveying element to be cleaned, such that upper side and lower side of the conveying element are surrounded.     • Web substrate cleaning systems and methods are provided. In some embodiments, a web cleaning system for removing debris from a substrate surface can generally comprise idlers and rollers. A web of substrate material can be held between the idlers, and moved at a first velocity to create a web boundary layer to hold debris on the web. A pair of counter rotating smooth, uniform surfaced rollers can rotate in an opposite direction to that of the web. The smooth, uniform surfaced rollers can have a substantially uniform surface with no extensions extending from the surface of the rollers. The rotating smooth, uniformed surfaced rollers can define a rotating boundary layer encasing the rollers that impinge the web boundary layer. Such impingement can cause the web boundary layer to releases debris from the web to the rotating boundary layer. Other aspects, embodiments, and features are also claimed and described.

    • A method of cleaning tissue webs in a rewinder utilize the Coanda effect to produce an improved tissue product. The Coanda effect web cleaner utilizes the smooth flow of a thin layer of air to scrub off dust and lint embedded and entangled in the web surface while stabilizing the web in its travel. Two of these Coanda effect web cleaners arranged on opposite sides of a multiple-ply web in a rewinder are effective when operated according to the method of the invention to produce a rewound tissue with an unexpectedly low loose dust and lint count on its surfaces.

    • A fluid delivery method is provided wherein either liquid or gaseous fluid is provided from fluid dispenser manifolds, via nozzle plates associated therewith, on each side of a path of travel of articles being treated by the fluid, and wherein nozzle openings in a nozzle plates cooperate with transverse groove(s) to provide a screen flow of fluid extending transversely of the path of travel of articles, and directed toward the articles. In the case of the fluid being a liquid, the nozzle openings provide cylindrical filament-like columns of liquid which are rendered by the associated grooves into generally flat, transversely disposed screen spray of liquid. In the case of the fluid being a gas, the nozzle openings and transverse grooves cooperate to deliver the gas in transversely spaced apart, transverse, planar zones of gas directed toward the path of article travel.In the case of liquid flow, the openings are generally cylindrical, and in the case of gas flow the openings are generally spaced-apart slotted holes. In the cases of both liquid and gas fluids, one of the grooves and/or nozzles are directed upstream relative to the path of article flow. Various adjustments are provided for adjusting the positions of the nozzle plates relative to the path of flow.The nozzle plate has a removable portion, for ease of cleaning and the like, that contains the nozzle orifices, sealing connected to the nozzle base section. The transverse groove that connects the line of orifices can have its center line varied from the center line of the orifices, in the direction of the longitudinal path, and/or the groove can have its angular orientation varied such that the path of flow of fluid discharged can be at an angle other than 90.degree. to the discharge surface of the nozzle plate.

    • This invention relates to an improved method and device for removing liquid from a moving surface such as a continuous metal sheet or strip. The invention has particular application to the removing of lubricant and/or coolant from sheet or strip in a rolling operation or the backup rolls of the rolling mills. The invention comprises a vacuum unit to remove most of the liquid from the moving surface, an air knife to drive the liquid remaining on the surface toward the vacuum unit, and a vent maintained at a pressure intermediate between the low pressure of the vacuum unit and the high pressure of the air knife to minimize eddy current formation in the gas flow from the air knife to the vacuum unit. Eddy currents can cause the redeposition of liquid onto the essentially dry sheet or strip.
