摘要： A polylactide-based polymer or copolymer (PLA) compositions with improved flame retardancy properties as obtained by conventional melt-blending of PLA polyester matrix (1) with both calcium sulfate (2) and organo-modified layered silicates (OMLS) (3). Combination of CaSO4 and OMLS exhibits synergistic effects on PLA flame retardancy by both significantly increasing the time to ignition and decreasing the heat release rate per unit area, and promoting non-dripping properties. Moreover, all other properties of PLA remain almost unchanged or are improved as regards to pristine PLA, especially thermal and mechanical properties.

摘要： A method for making an ophthalmic lens includes following steps of providing a mixture comprising a hydrophilic monomer, a clay, a cross-linking agent, an initiator, and a solvent; and feeding the mixture into a mold and exposing the mixture to ultraviolet radiation or heating the mixture, to cause the hydrophilic monomer, the cross-linking agent, and the initiator in the mixture to undergo a polymerization reaction to form a cross-linking network, and the clay in the mixture to be dispersed in the cross-linking network, thereby forming the ophthalmic lens. The disclosure also provides an ophthalmic lens made by above method, and an ophthalmic lens material making for the ophthalmic lens.

摘要： A method of preparing a polycarbonate nanocomposite comprising forming a reactant mixture comprising a nanomaterial, a solvent, a dihydroxy compound and an activated carbonate; and polymerizing the dihydroxy compound and the activated carbonate in the presence of the solvent to form the polycarbonate nanocomposite is disclosed. Also disclosed are polycarbonate nanocomposites prepared in accordance with this method, and thermoplastic compositions comprising the polycarbonate nanocomposites. 摘要： An ophthalmic lens material comprises a hydrophilic monomer, a clay, a cross-linking agent, an initiator, and a solvent. The hydrophilic monomer has a mass percentage of about 40% to about 65% of a total mass of the ophthalmic lens material. The clay has a mass percentage of about 0.1% to about 3% of the total mass of the ophthalmic lens material. The cross-linking agent has a mass percentage of about 0.15% to about 2% of the total mass of the ophthalmic lens material. The initiator has a mass percentage of about 0.11% to about 1.05% of the total mass of the ophthalmic lens material. The solvent has a mass percentage of about 30% to about 58% of the total mass of the ophthalmic lens material. The disclosure also provides an ophthalmic lens made of the ophthalmic lens material.

摘要： An aqueous barrier coating composition in the form of a dispersion includes: (a) water; (b) a polyester matrix polymer; (c) a platy to hyperplaty kaolin filler having an average shape factor of at least about 40:1, the composition being further characterized in that: (i) the composition has a solids content of from more than 20 weight percent up to 70 percent by weight; (ii) the composition has a weight ratio of polyester matrix polymer:kaolin filler of from 4:1 to 0.75:1; and (iii) a film formed from the composition exhibits at least 5-fold reduction in oxygen permeability as compared with a like film formed of said polyester matrix polymer. Also disclosed are barrier coatings derived from the compositions as well as packaging composites incorporating a barrier film formed from the compositions.
