    • A fuel pump draws pumps fuel from a fuel tank to a pressurizing chamber during a suction stroke, and pressurizes and sends fuel in the pressurizing chamber to a delivery pipe. A electromagnetic valve is actuated by electricity from a battery to electively connects and disconnects the fuel tank with the pressurizing chamber. An ECU determines opening and closing timing of the electromagnetic valve based on the rotation al phase of an engine. When the rotational phase of the engine is not identified, the ECU executes a duty control to cyclically repeat supplying and stopping of current to the electromagnetic valve. The ECU extends a current supplying period in each cycle of the duty control as the voltage of the power supply is lowered. As a result, the electromagnetic valve is reliably closed particularly at each pressurizing stroke, which improves the pressure increasing efficiency of fuel supplied to a fuel injection system.

    • A unit fuel injector adapted to receive fuel from a fuel supply at relatively low pressure and adapted to inject fuel at relatively high pressure into the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine is provided, comprising an injector body having a first internal bore and an injector orifice and a plunger mounted for reciprocating movement within the first internal bore to define a variable volume fuel pressurization chamber including a cam actuated upper plunger portion and a lower plunger portion mounted in the first internal bore between the variable volume fuel pressurization chamber and the upper plunger portion. While the upper plunger portion is in its retracted position, low pressure fuel from the fuel supply is supplied to the variable volume fuel pressurization chamber. A spring is positioned within the first internal bore to bias the upper and lower plunger portions apart to thereby allow for variation of the volume of fuel which flows into the variable volume fuel pressurization chamber during each cycle of injection operation in dependence on the pressure of the fuel from the fuel supply. A valve assembly including a valve element mounted for reciprocating movement within a second internal bore controls the flow of fuel from the variable volume fuel pressurization chamber to the injector orifice. The valve assembly allows fuel to be discharged through the injector orifice only during the time when the upper plunger portion is in its fully advanced position so that injection pressure is independent of the velocity at which the upper plunger portion moves between its retracted and advanced position.

    • A high-pressure fuel injector of a diesel engine includes a nozzle body, a pressure chamber body and a pressure piston. The nozzle body has a cavity in a central region thereof and a closed top end formed integrally thereon, the nozzle body includes a solenoid assembly integrally mounted at an upper side; a fuel feeding passage formed through the nozzle body at a side, the fuel feeding passage having a fuel feeding port communicating with the cavity; and at least one of injection passages formed through the nozzle body at a side, the injection passage having fuel outlet ports communicating with the cavity. The pressure chamber body is able to move up and down in the nozzle body to increase secondly the pressure of a trapped fuel therein, which includes an inlet port formed at a side thereof for selectively communicating with the fuel feeding port; and at least one of outlet ports formed at a side thereof for selectively communicating with the fuel outlet ports. The pressure piston disposed within the moving means and fixed on the closed top end of the nozzle body through a pressure rod.
