    • A function generator is provided which establishes an output signal according to a functional relationship determined by the preformed contour of an easily precut cam member. The function generator includes a variable gain controller section coupled to a proximity sensing motion balance servomechanism which varies the gain of the controller according to the sensed proximity of the servomechanism to the edge of the cam member without physical contact therewith. The cam member's position is in turn determined by an input signal which may be related to the controller input signals or may be an independent signal from a remote source. The gain and consequently the output of the controller is varied according to the functional relationship determined by the precut contour of the cam member.

    • Fluid back-pressure flowing out a cylinder when being powered through a stroke is sensed by fluid logic circuits to produce a signal which indicates that piston movement is slowed or stopped. A fluid logic device with a flexible impervious diaphragm senses the back pressure to provide an output signal when the piston is not functioning properly. The detector is made more sensitive and selective by restricting a flow path for the back-pressure and operating the logic device as a pressure amplifier, responsive to a threshold back-pressure valve. The sensor is operable to produce a negative going dynamic output transition as a signal that the piston rate is not exceeding a particular threshold value.

    • A fluidic circuit, the output signal of which is proportional to the square of the input signal supplied thereto. The circuit comprises means for supplying an input signal and means for taking an output pressure signal proportional to the pressure of the input signal. Generation of a pressure output proportional to the square of the input pressure signal is accomplished by impacting a jet of fluid emanating from a linear resistor onto another linear resistor or a stagnation plenum. The stagnated pressure is a function of the square of the input pressure.

    • A pneumatic, proportional, integrating and differentiating control apparatus wherein a rate unit is interposed between the output of an automatic control unit and a negative feed-back circuit and wherein an automatic-manual transfer switch is employed to bypass and cut out the effect of the rate unit at the time of manual operation and to reactivate the rate unit at the time of automatic operation. This control apparatus is constructed so that the transfer switch will operate with a longer time delay than its other automatic-manual transfer switches, which operate substantially instantaneously, when switching from manual to automatic operation and thereby provides bumpless and balanceless manual-automatic switching.
