    • A baseboard for use in preheating water has a heating element having a plurality of heating surface areas, a continuous coiled pipe member having a plurality of 180 degree bends adapted and formed to cover at least one of the surface areas of the heating element. The pipe member include a cold water intake pipe at a first end and a warm water outflow pipe at a second end dedicated and adapted to send warm water to a water heater. A cover member adapted to cover the heating element and the coiled pipe member includes at least one opening therethrough adapted to allow air to pass through and circulate around the heating element and the coiled pipe member and create a convection effect capable of adding additional heat to the water while passing through the coiled pipe member.

    • A fluidized bed combustion system particularly suited for use in a residential or light industrial heating system comprising a fluidized bed combustor housing a combustion chamber wherein fuel is burned to generate hot flue gas, a heat exchanger disposed inside of the combustion chamber, a particulate collector for removing fine particles entrained in the flue gas before the flue gas is vented to the atmosphere, and a fan for supplying air into the combustion chamber. The combustor features an insulated non-adiabatic combustion chamber with a cooling and heat exchange in the combustion zone and in the free-board area above the combustion zone. Electric heating means are disposed within the fluidizing region of the combuston chamber to provide the capability of heating the slumped bed during shut down to maintain bed temperature above the ignition point. The electric heating means is comprised of rod-shaped electrical resistance heating elements of a commercially available type protruding through the distributor plate into the fluidized bed at a specific inclined position. The control circuitry of the heating elements maintains their surface temperature at a level below about 900.degree. C., preferably below about 750.degree. C. The invention increases operation life of the heating elements by reducing their wear due to corrosion and erosion.

    • An apparatus for providing, in a continuous or intermittent manner, a superheated vapor of an organic liquid, such as methylene chloride, for reflowing plastic surfaces or causing a plastic material to flow onto a surface to create a film or coating thereon. The apparatus includes a tubular metal member defining a flow passage for both the liquid and gaseous phases of the liquid being vaporized. A vapor flow control member having a vapor flow orifice is provided at one end of the tubular member while the other end of the tubular member communicates with a source of organic liquid under pressure through an on-off valve. A source of electrical energy is connected in circuit with the tubular member through a switch operated concurrently with the valve whereby electrical current is caused to flow through the tubular member to heat the member to a temperature adequate to vaporize the liquid flowing therethrough. The tubular member is electrically and thermally insulated by a shield and a handle associated with the shield contains the valve and switch.
