The first second and third grating devices are each sandwiched by transparent lamina.

Various embodiments can reduce or entirely eliminate crosstalk using a coupler that has a power-splitting ratio that compensates for amplitude imbalance caused by phase modulator attenuation. Some embodiments implement a plurality of phase modulators and couplers as part of a dilated switch network to increase overall bandwidth and further reduce potential for crosstalk.

摘要： A method and apparatus for monitoring and feedback control of a photonic switch such as 2×2 Mach-Zehnder Interferometer switch. Optical signals at an input and an output of the switch are monitored via optical taps. A sinusoidal time-varying phase shift is applied to one of the monitoring signals. An optical combiner then combines the monitoring signals. A photodetector monitors output of the optical combiner to provide a feedback signal. The amplitude of the feedback signal due to the time-varying phase shift increases with the amount of input signal present in the output signal. When the input signal is to be routed to the output (e.g. for a bar state), a controller manipulates the switch to maximize feedback signal amplitude. When the input signal is to be routed to a different output (e.g. for a cross state), the controller manipulates the switch to minimize feedback signal amplitude.

The Reservoir Computing system additionally includes a photo-detector for converting a laser output signal to an electrical signal. The Reservoir Computing system further includes an analog-to-digital converter for sampling the electrical signal. The Reservoir Computing system also includes a controller for applying a learning algorithm to the sampled electrical signal.

摘要： Monitoring output power levels of a carrier-effect based switching cell allows phase errors resulting from driving a PIN or PN junction of the switching cell to be dynamically compensated for. The compensation may also allow for compensating of phase errors resulting from the phase imbalance of input couplers as well as phase errors from the waveguide due to fabrication variations. By dynamically compensating for phase errors caused by the driving of the PIN or PN junction, the extinction ratio of the carrier-effect based switching cell can be increased.

摘要： The present invention provides a switch device for an optical signal which has high extendibility and which can suppress an increase of loss in extension. A switch device in one embodiment of the present invention includes, in a housing, four splitter portions, four switch portions, and extension splitter portions. The splitter portions are connected to path-side ports, the switch portions are connected to client-side ports, and the splitter portions and the switch portions are connected to one another via shuffle fiber arrays. One ends of the extension splitter portions are connected to path-side extension ports, and the other ends thereof are connected to client-side extension ports. The number of wavelengths processable by the switch device can be easily changed by changing a connection state of optical fibers to the path-side ports, the client-side ports, the path-side extension ports, and the client-side extension ports.

摘要： A pre-pulsed magnetic field generation circuit for a fiber-based, magneto-optic (MO) optical modulator or switch for use in an interferometer is provided. The pre-pulsed magnetic field is used to control the amount of rotation in the state of polarization (SOP), and therefore, the ON-OFF extinction ratio. The circuit includes a pair of amplifier circuits that control the current through a coil to generate the pre-pulsed magnetic field. One amplifier controls a magnitude of a steady state portion of the magnetic field, while the other controls both the amplitude and duration of a pre-pulse portion of the magnetic field.
