摘要： An image reading device includes a loading plate, a frame, a scanner, a flat cable, and a holding member. The scanner includes a reading mechanism that extends in a main scanning direction and reciprocates in a sub-scanning direction on the side of a bottom surface opposite to an upper surface on which a document on the loading plate in the frame is loaded. The flat cable extends in the frame so that a width direction of the flat surface follows a direction orthogonal to the bottom surface of the loading plate. The holding member reciprocates together with the scanner and holds a part of the flat cable from the side on a main surface of the frame.

A bidirectional fiber optic element is located between the first and second imaging areas to transmit light from the light source to the second imaging area and light reflected from the second imaging area to the first imaging area.

An original is placed on the document table. The document feeder can open and close an upper part of the document table and conveys the original. The opening sensor detects whether the document feeder opens the document table. The operation unit receives the input of information indicating processing content for the image data. The first memory stores first configuration. The second memory stores second configuration corresponding to the information input to the operation unit. The control unit changes, if the opening sensor detects the opening of the document table, the second configuration stored in the second memory to the first configuration.

摘要： A scanning system for an electrophotographic printing machine is adapted to alleviate the problem of platen overheating when the machine is operated in a mode wherein documents are stream-fed past an exposure zone formed by a stationary scan/illumination assembly. The scanning system includes a scan/illumination assembly which moves beneath a stationary platen during a first, copying mode. When the mode of operation changes and the documents are stream-fed along the platen surface, the illumination/scan assembly is held stationary during each exposure cycle but is periodically moved to new positions during subsequent exposure cycles. A system controller monitors the stream-fed mode of operation and adjusts system timing and registration functions to compensate for the alternate scan/illumination exposure positions.
