    • A method and a device for providing cards for processing first cause a drawing of a card from at least one card magazine. The cards are arranged in a plurality of card magazines and may be drawn from the same, and information regarding their card type is further associated with the cards. After drawing the card, it is output for subsequent processing together with the information regarding the card type associated with the card to allow control of the subsequent processing based on the forwarded information. Cards of a known card type are arranged in a card magazine and the information regarding the card type is associated with the card magazine, wherein the information associated with the card magazine is forwarded when drawing a card from a card magazine.

    • A smart card handling system is for handling a plurality of smart cards. It includes an infeed mechanism, a discharge mechanism, a rotary drum, an indexing mechanism, a motor and a control system. The rotary drum has a plurality of evenly spaced smart card read modules. The drum is mechanically connected to the infeed mechanism and the discharge mechanism. Each smart card read module is adapted to receive a smart card from the infeed mechanism and is adapted to read information from the smart card received therein. The discharge mechanism is adapted to receive smart card from the smart card read modules. The indexing mechanism is operably connected to the drum. The motor has a drive shaft mechanically connected to the indexing mechanism. The control system receives information from each of the plurality of read modules.

    • Equipment for feeding sheets such as punched cards provides for offsetting cards edgewise from a deck of cards and for sequentially feeding the cards from the offset position along a path extending generally parallel to the faces of the cards in the deck. The cards are transferred to the offset position by barrel rollers which are mounted on a shaft which is offset from and paralleling the cards in the deck. Each roller is mounted for rotation with its axis arranged generally tangent to a circle having as its center the axis of the mounting shaft. Each roller axis is oriented in a plane which is generally normal to the plane of the cards and positioned so that the side of the roller engages the face surface of the card at the end of the stack upon rotation of the mounting shaft. The barrel rollers can remain in contact with the card as it is moved from the offset position and freely rotate upon their own axis to permit movement of the cards by the sequential feed means in the feed path. Plural magazines which are angularly arranged with respect to one another are disclosed. Cards are fed from each magazine into a common feed path.

    • A pick-off head for a machine for sorting cards or the like which uses subatmospheric pressure to pull the bottom card from its adjacent card to effect a separation of the two cards, and a mechanical thickness gauging device to insure singular lateral movement of the bottom card relative to its adjacent card. The bottom card is distorted by the subatmospheric pressure to remove its central region from contact with the adjacent card, but if static or other conditions prevent such separation, the thickness gauging device physically bars the second card from moving with the first.
