    • Sustain discharge is stably caused while power consumption is reduced, and image display quality is improved. A plasma display device has a plasma display panel, an electric power recovering circuit for raising or falling a sustain pulse by resonating an inductor and the inter-electrode capacity of a display electrode pair, and a sustain pulse generating circuit for alternately applying, to the display electrode pair, as many sustain pulses as the number corresponding to the luminance weight in the sustain period of a plurality of subfields that are disposed in one field and have initializing, address, and sustain periods. The sustain pulse generating circuit generates at least two kinds of sustain pulses including a first sustain pulse serving as a reference and a second sustain pulse that rises more gently than the first sustain pulse, and generates the first sustain pulse immediately after the second sustain pulse.

    • The present invention relates to a plasma display apparatus, and more particularly, to a driving method thereof. The plasma display apparatus includes a panel comprised of a first substrate and a second substrate bonded to each other, a first electrode and a second electrode formed on the upper substrate, and a sustain driver for applying sustain pulses to the first and second electrodes, wherein the sustain driver applies a sustain voltage between the first and second electrodes, and floats at least one of the first and second electrodes after the completion of a sustain discharge caused by the sustain voltage.In the plasma display apparatus and the driving method thereof, according to the present invention, at least one of a scan electrode and a sustain electrode is floated for a predetermined time after the completion of the sustain discharge. This floating state prevents wall charges that are generated during the sustain discharge from being accumulated and increases a discharge path of a plasma display apparatus using a space voltage, thereby improving afterimage characteristic and enhancing brightness and discharge efficiency.

    • In a plasma display apparatus and a method of driving the same which is driven by a driving signal having a reset period, an address period and a sustain period, a sustain pulse is applied during the sustain period, the sustain pulse including: an interval in which the sustain pulse rises from a ground voltage to a first voltage; an interval in which the first voltage is substantially constant for predetermined period of time; an interval in which the sustain pulse rises from the first voltage to a second voltage; and an interval in which the second voltage is substantially constant for a predetermined period of time. At least two discharges can be generated per a single sustain pulse by applying a sustain pulse rising and falling in two stages during one sustain period, and discharge efficiency and luminance can be improved by lengthening a light emission time by maintaining the light generated by a discharge for a predetermined time.
