    • The present invention provides an image display apparatus including an image bearing web in the form of an endless belt on which an erasable image is formed, the image being carried into an image display section for observation. If the image bearing web is photosensitive, it is affected by the light, resulting in the deterioration of the image formed. To avoid this, the length of the image bearing web which is used to form one complete image is made equal to the full length thereof divided by an integer. Therefore, that position on the image bearing web which is used to form an image to be displayed is not changed for each display to limit the portions of the photosensitive web exposed to light to predetermined areas, thereby avoiding the occurrence of the difference in image quality within each of the predetermined areas.

    • The present invention provides an image display apparatus including an image bearing web in the form of an endless belt on which an erasable image is formed. The erasable image is then carried to a display portion by the image bearing web. The length of the image bearing web is selected to be equal to or more than twice the length of the displayable region in the display portion. The image bearing web being movable independently of image forming process, whereby the image on the web which has already passed by the display portion can be returned to the display portion, permitting repetitive display function and improving the display apparatus in operation.

    • An information display apparatus includes a matrix of thin-film light-emitting diodes (LEDs) disposed on a transparent substrate. The thin-film LEDs are epitaxially grown on a semiconductor substrate, then transferred in strips to the transparent substrate, anchored by intermolecular forces, and separated into individual LEDs by photolithography and etching. The anodes and cathodes of the thin-film LEDs are connected to anode and cathode driving circuits by a matrix of thin-film electrical paths formed on the transparent substrate. The matrix of LEDs and interconnections is dense enough to display images of high quality, and provides enough pixels for the display of useful text and graphics on even small information display devices.

    • A method and apparatus to avoid disturbing an inexperienced operator of a text station, such as a typewriter or other word processing device which is equipped with a one-line display device (6), when the text approaches the end of the display device and a word must be hyphenated. In a typical conventional text station having a one-line display device, the current typing position is marked on the display device by a cursor (9) which automatically advances toward the right margin (10) until a line feed is initiated, whereupon the cursor jumps to the left margin (11) on the display device and the previously displayed text is erased. If a word is divided, the first part of the divided word is then no longer visible at a conventional text station after the automatic line feed, and for inexperienced operators this disturbs the typing rhythm. One embodiment of the present invention avoids this disturbance by resetting the cursor to the left margin after a hyphen and erasing the text except for the first part of the divided word and the hyphen at the right margin. After the second part of the divided word has been completed at the left margin, the operator actuates a control number (such as the space bar) and causes the first part of the word to also be erased. This keeps both parts of a divided word visible until the word is completed, which facilitates monitoring of the text being prepared.
