摘要： High performance is obtained without preventing achievement of a target read data rate.In a controller 16 of a tape drive, a command processing unit 41 receives a synchronization command, and a buffer management unit 42 passes data in a buffer to a channel input-output unit 43. Then, upon completion of writing the data to the tape, a backhitch determination unit 44 determines whether or not to execute backhitch. If it is determined that backhitch should be skipped, the speed determination unit 46 determines a tape speed that minimizes a sum of a time required to write data without backhitch within a range where a data amount of a monitor target is to be written in order to achieve a target read data rate, and a time required to write data with backhitch within the range. Then, an operation signal output unit 49 issues an instruction to change the tape speed to the determined tape speed after execution of backhitch.

The tape player includes pins respectively moving in four different grooves provided in one disk-like cam, and a lever in conjunction with the movement of the pins to use movement of the lever so as to perform a cassette tape carry in/out operation, a head base moving operation, a playback running direction switching operation, and a selective operation to transfer driving force to a reel rest during fast forward. A half blanking is provided for a periphery of a hole portion in the main base to prevent a gear portion of a reel rest from contacting the main base.

The tape recorder comprises a trigger member for mechanically detecting stopping of a reel receiving member to activate a tape feeding direction change-over mechansim, a pair of operating members manually operable for initiating a fast feeding or a rewinding operation, an arresting mechanism operable for arresting an actuated operating member to its actuated position, a transmission member operable in response to the actuated operating member for operating the trigger member, and a tape feeding direction change-over member mounted for engagement by the operating members. When a tape comes to its end while one of the operating members is arrested to its actuated position, the trigger member urges the transmission member to release the operating member from its arrested position.

The mode changing lever causes a rotation of a switching lever movably installed at a rear face of a deck frame. One end of the switching lever is engaged with one end of a pinch roller selecting plate for selecting one of pinch rollers according to an operation mode. The pinch roller selecting plate is actuated relative with the switching lever rotated according to the operation mode. Therefore, one of the pinch rollers approaches a corresponding turntable wheel.

In the present invention, the functions of FF and REW are improved, and the mentioned functions are carried out in a simple manner. Further, the manufacture and assembling of the tape recorder become easier. Further owing to the simple constitution of the direction reversing member, the price of the tape recorder can be lowered.
