    • This invention discloses a data storage system for accessing data stored in a data storage medium. The data storage system includes a motor-head assembly controlled to activate a vertical movement for loading and unloading at least a pickup head supported thereon to access the data medium in the data storage medium. For a specific data-storage system configuration, the motor-head assembly further includes a rotating motor for rotating the pickup head when the pickup head is loaded onto the data storage medium. In another system configuration, the data storage system implemented with a motor to move the data storage medium in at least one linear direction or for rotating the data storage medium. The motor-head assembly further includes a vertical-position locking hook for automatically pulling away the pickup head from the data storage media when the motor-head assembly is unloaded from the data storage medium. The vertical-position locking linkage further automatically unlock the pickup head in an unconstrained compliance state next to the data storage medium when the motor-head assembly is loaded to the data storage medium.

    • This invention discloses a magnetic data-card drive system. The drive system includes a magnetic pickup head for rotationally moving over and accessing data stored in the magnetic data-card. The magnetic pickup head is provided for reading data from and writing data to the magnetic data card. The magnetic pickup head may be applied for accessing data over substantially one-half of the rotational movement. In another preferred embodiment, the magnetic pickup head is applied for accessing data over several arc-segments during the rotational movement. The magnetic pickup head may be design for rotating in a single rotational direction, or for rotating in clockwise and counterclockwise directions. Furthermore, the magnetic pickup head may be designed for rotating over arc segment having radius smaller than half-width of the magnetic data card, or for rotating over an arc segment having a radius greater than half-width of the magnetic data card. In a preferred embodiment, the magnetic pickup head is provided as a removable and replaceable module. The magnetic pickup head may access the data by contacting the magnetic data card, or by rotating at a distance above the magnetic data card. The magnetic data-card drive system further includes a motor that has a rotating shaft for mounting and rotating the magnetic pickup head. Also, the magnetic pickup head further includes a data signal transformer for transforming a data signal through data signal induced changes of magnetic flux.

    • A channel circuit that receives an analog disk readback signal of a data storage disk drive includes a comparator string and a data channel binary decoder that together comprise what is commonly referred to as a flash analog-to-digital (A/D) converter, which processes the data channel information of the readback signal. The servo information of the readback signal is provided to the comparator string of the data channel flash A/D converter, whose output then is provided to a servo burst binary decoder for decoding to produce the desired servo burst data. Thus, the servo information is digitized and decoded at the relatively high speed possible with a flash A/D converter, without requiring a comparator string in addition to what would otherwise be provided for the data channel application.
