    • A video disc player is described for use with a video disc having frequency modulated video information recorded thereon in the form of a plurality of concentric circles or a single spiral. The information track comprises successively positioned light reflective and light non-reflective regions. A focused light beam is caused to be positioned over the center of an information track and the light reflected from the information track is gathered by an objective lens for application to electronic circuitry for recovering the recorded frequency modulated video signals. Radial tracking means are described for maintaining the focused light spot to impinge upon the center of an information track. Lens focusing means are described for positioning the objective lens at the optimum focused position above the information track for gathering the maximum amount of reflected light from the information track. FM processing means are described for reconstructing the recovered frequency modulated video information such that the ratio between the amplitude of the signals as recorded is essentially the same in the signals as recovered from the video disc member. Further servo means are described for handling the selective change of the intersection of the reading beam with the video disc member in a predetermined preferred mode of operation.

    • The burst component of a video signal recovered from a video disc record is applied to a timebase correction servo for controlling the tangential position of the player pick-up transducer in a sense to minimize timebase errors. The record is rotated at a constant angular velocity whereby, for a given displacement of the pick-up transducer, the servo loop gain tends to vary with the radial position of the transducer which, in turn, undesirably influences the servo sensitivity and dynamic stability. A loop gain compensator, responsive to a second component of the recovered video signal proportional to the playing time of the disc, regulates the servo gain at a substantially constant value thereby improving the loop stability and sensitivity.

    • A hologram recording apparatus includes a rotating mechanism for rotating a hologram recording medium, a first light source for emitting first laser light, a modulator for modulating the intensity of the emitted first laser light to record a hologram on the hologram recording medium, a second light source for emitting second laser light with which a predetermined signal pattern is read from the rotating hologram recording medium, and a controller operable to exert control on the basis of the read signal pattern so that the intensity of the first laser light is modulated by the modulator while the first laser light is being oscillated and so that a beam spot of the first laser light is applied onto the hologram recording medium in periods in which the relative velocity between the target recording region and the beam spot becomes almost zero.
