    • A handheld electronic device and an associated method are provided.     • A movable contact unit, of which an upper surface of a movable contact made of a conductive metal plate is adhesively fixed to an adhesive layer formed on the underside of a base film, an upper surface of a separator is affixed to the adhesive layer in a manner to sandwich the movable contact between them, and the periphery of the movable contact is heated and pressed in a circular shape from above of the base film to form a convex-shaped portion in an area of base film corresponding to the movable contact in a manner to fit along a dome-like shape of the movable contact and to make a peripheral area or a base of the convex-shaped portion pressed circularly to close adhesion to the separator with the adhesive layer. By virtue of this structure, there can be an improvement of manufacturing efficiency of the movable contact unit.

    • A flexible EL dome sheet uses a polymer insulation layer having a thickness of 5 to 50 μm as a substrate, and therefore, the thickness of the flexible EL dome sheet is 50 to 150 μm. The flexible EL dome sheet comprises a flexible EL sheet having key patterns formed thereon and metal or poly domes attached to the EL sheet. Since the flexible EL sheet and the metal or poly domes are used, the flexible EL dome sheet has excellent flexibility and durability, and an additional process for silicon molding is not necessary. Furthermore, the tactile feel of the flexible EL dome sheet keypad is improved. Electric connection between an EL driver of a flexible printed circuit board and the flexible EL sheet is achieved using a contact pad terminal structure, whereby no additional connector is necessary, and therefore, an FPC connecting process is not required.

    • A small movable contact unit and a panel switch which prevent peeling from an edge even though the width between the edge of a base sheet and a movable contact is narrowed. The movable contact unit includes the movable contact and base sheet. The movable contact has a round dome shape and is made of a resilient metal sheet. The base sheet is an insulating film which adheres a dome tip of the movable contact with an adhesive applied to its undersurface for holding the movable contact at a predetermined position. A supplementary adhesive is applied to a ring non-adhesive area of the movable contact disposed near the edge of the base sheet at a portion toward the edge of the base sheet. Accordingly, the movable contact disposed near the edge is adhered to and held by the base sheet using the adhesive including the supplementary adhesive.
