    • A powerline communications device comprises a powerline communications interface and at least one other communications interface configured to communicate over a computing network. The powerline communications interface is further configured to receive electrical power. The computing network may comprise mediums including powerlines, telephone lines, and/or coaxial cables. In some embodiments, the powerline communications interface may communicate with a network apparatus, such as a personal computer, via an Ethernet interface. The powerline interface, the telephone line interface, and/or the coaxial cable interface may all be associated with the same media access control (MAC) address. The powerline communications device may receive a message via a first medium and repeat the message via a second medium based on a quality of service (QoS) metric. In some embodiments, the powerline communications device may communicate using multiple frequency bands.

    • A communications apparatus comprises a first medium interface circuit for communicating data over a power line, a first medium access controller, having a first MAC address, for controlling the first medium interface circuit, an 802.11 compliant second medium interface circuit for wireless data communications, a second medium access controller, having a second MAC address, for controlling the second medium interface circuit, and a communications medium access controller configured to apportion data for simultaneous communication over the wireless and power line media. The first medium interface circuit and the second medium interface circuit are linked at the layer II level of the OSI model. A network of said devices is also disclosed, the network possibly including device connected via only one of the media.

    • In a communication apparatus has a line control unit that controls connection with a communication line network, a communication unit transmits/receives data through the communication line network. A detection circuit detects one of a line voltage value and a line current value when the communication apparatus is connected to the line network. A memory unit stores multiple voltage-current characteristic curves defining relationships of line voltage values with respect to line current values satisfying a predetermined standard. An adjusting unit adjusts the line voltage value and the line current value so as to satisfy the predetermined standard based on one of the voltage-current characteristic curves stored in the memory unit. A selecting unit selects another voltage-current characteristic curve different from the one of the voltage-current characteristic curves from among the multiple voltage-current characteristic curves stored in the memory unit. A re-adjusting unit adjusts one of the line voltage and a line current.
