    • An image reading apparatus includes a visible light source; an infrared light source; at least three one-dimensional photoelectric conversion elements extending in a main scanning direction and having respective different spectral sensitivity characteristics; an imaging optical system configured to form an image of image information of an original placed on an original holder and irradiated by the visible light source and the infrared light source on the one-dimensional photoelectric conversion elements; a driving unit configured to change relative optical positions of the imaging optical system and the original in a sub-scanning direction; and a control unit configured to obtain visible-light image information and infrared-light image information of the original by controlling turning-on operations of the visible light source and the infrared light source at every reading in the main scanning direction and by performing relative movement of the image optical system and the original in the sub-scanning direction.

    • Provided is an image reading apparatus including: a document holding section for holding a document; and a carriage which moves with respect to the document holding section, the carriage including: a rod-like light source for irradiating the document with light; a light source mounting base for supporting the light source; a housing provided with a sensor for reading image data of the document and the light source mounting base; and a reflection plate including: a reflection curved surface portion for partially surrounding the light source to collect light emitted from the light source toward the document holding section; and a light reducing portion for reducing an amount of light at a longitudinal center portion of the light source with respect to the document holding section.

    • Color adjusting apparatus and method for a light source. A reflector of a required color is added to a light source of a scan module, a plating film of the required color is formed on a lens, or the lens is dyed with the required color. Or alternatively, the color of the light source is directly changed into the required color. As a result, the inconsistent intensities for the light in the primary color, red, green and blue output from the charge-coupled device caused by different brightness of the light source, different wavelength transmission of the lens, and different light sensitivity of the charge-coupled device is improved.
