摘要： The present invention relates generally to audio and video signal processing, e.g., audio or video signal encoding and detection. One claim recites a method of analyzing an embedded media signal to extract a message information signal therefrom. The method recites —in combination with other features —utilizing a multi-purpose electronic processor configured for: detecting from an embedded media signal embedded code signals corresponding to registration symbols and variable message information symbols; verifying detection of the embedded code signals coffesponding to the registration symbols; and verifying detection of the variable message information symbols by checking correspondence of the values of the variable message information symbols relative to the registration symbols with an expected sequence of values. The multi-purpose electronic processor is configured for analyzing a plurality of fragments of the embedded media signal with greater or lesser confidence in an extracted message information signal being obtained by processing more or less fragments of the embedded media signal, respectively. Of course, other combinations and claims are provided as well.

Information indicative of the start and end of each piece of information content covered by copyright is superimposed thereon as electronic watermark information. When the received information signal is copied, both the information indicative of the start of the information content and the information indicative of the end thereof are detected from the electronic watermark information, determining the completion of copying. 摘要： An apparatus for restricting a copy of digital information is provided with a detecting device for detecting a first watermark, which is buried in the digital information and comprises a first signal generated on the basis of a first rule. A burying device buries a second watermark, which comprises a second signal generated on the basis of a second rule and having a structure different from that of the first signal, into the digital information if the first watermark is detected by the detecting device. A recording apparatus is provided with: an inputting device for inputting the digital information; the above mentioned copy restricting apparatus; and a recording device for recording the digital information in which the second watermark is buried by the burying device.

摘要： Data is protected from unauthorized copying by rescrambling an unauthorized version of the data, but descrambling an authorized version of the data. This is done using a trigger signal. One property of the trigger signal is that it is preserved through signal transformations, such as one or more of compression, decompression, analog to digital conversion, and digital to analog conversion. As a result of this property the trigger signal can be detected in either scrambled or descrambled data. The trigger signal is embedded into the data to form watermarked data. The watermarked data is passed through a descrambler, where the trigger signal, if present, is extracted. A descrambling key and a descrambling algorithm are applied to the watermarked data if the trigger signal is present, but not applied to the watermarked data if the trigger signal is not present.

摘要： Methods of processing audio to convey auxiliary control information therein without audible evidence of data alteration. Various arrangements are disclosed. One receives plural bit auxiliary data in which the auxiliary control information is included, and modulates same with noise data to yield intermediate data. The intermediate data is then summed with the original audio to produce the encoded audio. The noise can be tailored to enhance performance, and the intermediate data can be scaled in amplitude so as to better hide the auxiliary data within the audio. One application of the technology is in consumer audio appliances, where the auxiliary control information can be used to trigger some response in the appliance, such as enabling or disabling certain operations.
