摘要： A technique for securely transferring content from a first device in a first layer to a second device in a second layer. In one embodiment, the first device is a device in a trusted domain and the second device is outside of the trusted domain. Transfer of protected content to another device may require authentication of the receiving device. A rights file which specifies the rights of the receiving device to use the protected content, according to its security level is also transferred. These rights may concern, e.g., the number of times the receiving device may transfer the protected content to other devices, the time period within which the receiving device may play the protected content, etc. The higher the security level of the receiving device, the more rights accorded thereto. A minimum security level requirement may be imposed in order for protected content to be transferred to a device.

Systems of the invention can comprise a first platform for accessing, storing and distributing media content, wherein the media content comprises an unrenderable state when received by the first platform; a second platform communicatively coupled with the first platform for rendering the stored media content; the first and second platforms cooperatively providing an interface for purchasing a right to render stored or accessible media content at least one time; and at least one of the first platform and the second platform being operable to convert the stored or accessible media content to a renderable state upon the purchase of the right to render, wherein the first and second platforms are communicatively coupled to the Internet. Systems are preferably operably connected to the Internet and can provide access to content sources local to and remote from the system of the invention.

In this way, the decryption module will only have the capability of decrypting content based on that module's own key.

The interactive information distribution system includes at least one programming source for storing at least one partially encrypted video program, and a distribution center including a remote server. The remote server stores the at least one partially encrypted video program received from the at least one programming source. The remote server also processes the partially encrypted video program corresponding to a subscriber requested video program to produce a fully encrypted video program. A subscriber-side distribution network, coupled to the distribution center, causes transmission of the fully encrypted video program to the requesting subscriber.

摘要： A system for implementing the virtual channel service generates an content key associated with each of the video on-demand (VOD) program contents for the each VOD program content multicast on a virtual channel, encrypts the VOD program contents by using the content key and multicasts the encrypted VOD program content on the virtual channel; generates a channel key for the virtual channel that multicasts the VOD program content, encrypts the content key and generates encryption information by using the channel key, and authorizes a user terminal that orders the virtual channel to the channel key, and multicasts the encryption information on the virtual channel. The user terminal that joins the virtual channel decrypts and obtains the content key by using the authorized channel key and then uses the content key to decrypt the encrypted content of the VOD program. Hence, it is necessary to encrypt the VOD program content once and store one corresponding encrypted program, thus saving storage resources of the system.
