    • An ISDN-user-network interface system comprising an interface buffer and an interface adapter. The interface buffer provided between an ISDN network terminal equipment and a terminal equipment to receive an up-signal frame transmitted from said terminal equipment to said network terminal equipment, to store said up-signal frame, and to transmit said stored up-signal frame at a timing when said network terminal equipment is capable of detecting the synchronization of said up-signal frame. The interface adapter provided between said ISDN network terminal equipment and said terminal equipment, to receive an up-signal frame transmitted from said terminal equipment to said network terminal equipment, to detect D-channel bits of said up-signal frame, to transmit said up-signal frame to said network terminal equipment, to copy said detected D-channel bits into echo channel bits of a down-signal frame from said net-work terminal equipment to said terminal equipment received immediately after the transmission of said up-signal frame, and to transmit said down-signal frame to said terminal equipment.

    • In a terminal adapter which is located between a data terminal equipment unit (11) and a data communication network (12) and which includes a buffer memory (22, 27) for memorizing an original data signal sequence sent from each of the data terminal equipment unit and the data communication network, the original data signal sequence is subjected to data compression by a data compression circuit to be thereafter memorized into the buffer memory and to be read out of the buffer memory as a readout data signal sequence. The readout data signal sequence is expanded by a data expansion circuit (32, 35) to be sent to the data terminal equipment unit or the data communication network at a transmission rate matched therewith. The data compression may be executed by the use of an LZ method, a modified LZ method, such as LZW, LZSS, or the like.

    • A method for activating tandem digital subscriber lines separated by a carrier system in a communication link connecting a switch and a network termination is implemented by a microcontroller which interfaces with a digital subscriber line transceiver to extract and transmit activation request information and a programmable gate array to relay and interpret activation information conveyed across the carrier system. The microcontroller intelligently combines the activation information received from the carrier system, the activation indicator bit received from the digital subscriber line transceiver, and the transceiver status to independently activate the digital subscriber lines in a controlled sequence, so that a proper response is conveyed to the T-interface to preclude premature regarding of the physical transmission channel as being transparent. This is achieved by not setting the downstream activation bit to the network termination to 1 until each upstream digital subscriber line is fully activated in both directions.
