    • A switch status detection circuit is provided, including three input terminals and a ground terminal. Two input terminals connect to a power supply via respective switches, receiving a respective voltage signal. The third connects to the power supply, receiving a neutral signal. A neutral synchronization circuit, between the third and the ground terminal, generates a positive pulsed current signal as a function of the neutral signal. Two capacitors, each with a respective first terminal connected to a corresponding input terminal, and a respective second terminal connected to the ground terminal, are charged by the current signal when the capacitor's corresponding switch is in an off state. Respective output terminals are coupled to each capacitor's first terminal to provide respective control signals, indicating the respective switch's state as a function of a voltage level across that capacitor. Each control signal has a logic level corresponding to its respective switch's state.

    • The present invention provides, in one embodiment, a gas discharge lamp ballast with an integral shutdown timer. The ballast includes a circuit for receiving AC power, a converter circuit for converting the AC power to DC power and a square wave oscillator powered from the DC power. A resonant circuit powered by the square wave oscillator supplies power to at least one gas discharge lamp. A time-delay circuit disables the square wave oscillator, without interrupting the DC power supplied to the oscillator, upon the passage of a predetermined period of time from power-up of the AC power. The ballast can be realized with only a marginal increase in cost and size of the ballast.

    • A method, apparatus, and system for compensating for lamp lumen depreciation and providing selective discretionary lamp power adjustment, e.g., for lamp dimming. The method includes operating the lamp under rated wattage for a period towards the first part of operating life of the lamp. Operating wattage is increased at one or more later times. Energy savings are realized. The increases also restore at least some light lost by lamp lumen depreciation. The apparatus uses a timer to track operating time of the lamp. A few wattage changes made at spaced apart times can be made in a number of ways, including changing capacitance to the lamp, or using different taps on the lamp ballast. A component allows selective discretionary adjustment of electrical power or some other controlling factor to adjust light output (e.g. dim) the lamp.
