    • A driving device for a discharge lamp includes: an alternating current supply section adapted to supply two electrodes of the discharge lamp with an alternating current; a frequency modulation section adapted to modulate a frequency of the alternating current, which the alternating current supply section supplies, in accordance with a predetermined condition of the discharge lamp within a range between a predetermined upper limit frequency and a predetermined lower limit frequency; and a modulation condition setting section adapted to set a modulation condition of the frequency by the frequency modulation section, wherein the modulation condition setting section sets the modulation condition so that the lower limit frequency when the discharge lamp is in a first state is higher than the lower limit frequency when the discharge lamp is in a second state in which a flicker is harder to occur than in the first state.

    • An electronic circuit for use with a lamp controller includes a driver component and a voltage interface circuit powered by the driver component. The interface component delivers a low voltage power signal at a defined operating range via output lines to a downstream controller. A protection circuit is coupled with the voltage interface circuit. The protection circuit in one embodiment has an under-voltage switch disposed in one of the output lines and configured to open at a voltage less than the defined voltage range, and a blocking device disposed in the other output line and configured to block reverse power flow at a voltage above the defined voltage range. In another embodiment, the protection circuit has a first blocking device disposed in either one of the output lines to block reverse power flow to the voltage interface circuit, a PTC device disposed in either one of the output lines, and a second blocking device disposed across the output lines to protect the control circuit from a high voltage reverse polarity condition.

The circuit arrangement may include a commutating device, which is configured to exhibit an input which is coupled to a direct-current source and has an output which can be coupled to a discharge lamp; the commutating device being configured in such a manner that it couples the direct-current source to the output and the polarity with which the direct-current source is coupled to the output can be commutated by a control device; the control device including a measurement input which is coupled to a measuring device which is configured to deliver a measurement value which is a measure of the magnitude of a lamp voltage; wherein the control device is configured to control the commutating device in such a manner that the polarity at which a higher lamp voltage prevails is coupled longer to the output.
