    • A compressed gas regulator with integral flow meter is disclosed. The regulator includes pressure reducing section and a flow control section, as well as, a Bourdon tube gauge disposed within the protective surround of the regulator body to prevent physical damage to the gauge. The Bourdon tube is mounted on a gauge adapter that provides for rotation of the tube within the regulator body, yet maintaining a gas seal with the high pressure gas supply. The gauge adapter provides a means for fluidly communicating the high pressure level to the Bourdon tube, yet allowing rotation of the Bourdon tube for zeroing and calibration purposes. An indicator ring, also disposed within the regulator body, is mounted on the Bourdon tube so that the pressure level is readily ascertained by viewing the indicator ring through an aperture in the regulator body. An improved flow meter or flow control device is also disclosed that includes a filter and coined flow aperture plate that is economical to manufacture yet provides improved functionality in filtering particulates from the gas emerging from the flow meter.

    • A noise attenuating filter for use in a fluid flow systems which includes a cylindrical body defining a plurality of arcuate open-ended passageways extending longitudinally therethrough, a corresponding plurality of small radial slots in one end thereof communicating with the passageways and a closing member biased outwardly from the slotted end of the cylindrical body so that during use, fluid flows about the closing member and into and through the arcuate passageways until such time as the fluid pressure on the closing member causes the closing member to cover the upstream end of the annular passageways whereupon the fluid is caused to travel into the passageways through the smaller radial slots thereby reducing the volume of flow through the system and attenuating the noise of the fluid flow while additionally preventing the passage of large particles through the system. When the pressure on the closing member is reduced, the closing member snaps outwardly clearing the filter of any particles accumulating therein.

    • A valve for automatically dumping a load of solids entrained within a fluid transport medium in response to flow interruption is disclosed. The automatic dump valve is particularly well-suited for use in combination with a module transport riser in deep ocean mining operations. The automatic dump valve system is combined with a tubular conduit defining a longitudinally extending flow passage having a sidewall opening defining a dump port. The automatic dump valve assemby includes a movable dump port cover plate and a hydraulic actuator coupled to the cover plate The hydraulic actuator is operably responsive to pressure changes within the flow passage relative to the pressure exerted by a surrounding body of water to open and close the dump port. The hydraulic actuator is formed by the combination of a sidewall portion of the tubular conduit constricting the flow passage thereby defining a venturi flow region, and a pressure chamber housing enclosing the conduit section and defining an annular pressure chamber. The pressure chamber is divided by a movable piston into a first chamber which is connected in fluid communication with the venturi passage, and a second pressure chamber which is exposed to hydraulic pressure exerted by the surrounding body of water. The dump valve further includes a deflector plate mounted within the tubular housing for movement from a clear passage position to a dump position, with the deflector plate extending from the dump port transversely through the flow passage in the dump position thereby defining a bypass channel for diverting settling solids through the dump port.
