    • A method is disclosed for enabling functions of an information handling system such as startup (i.e., boot), loading of an operating system or execution of a software application, by requiring authentication of the information handling system. A client information handling system establishes a communication link with a central system or server via a network such as a Local Area Network (LAN) or the Internet. A request for authentication is then sent to the central system by the information handling system via the communication link. The central system, upon receiving the authentication request from the information handling system, determines if the authentication request is valid, and, if valid, provides authentication of the information handling system via one or more encrypted tokens passed from the central system to the information handling system, thereby allowing the information handling system to provide or continue to provide the function, even when disconnected from the network.

    • The invention is directed to a method for providing message diagnosis, in particular for error messages, and for error recovery in a system with at least one industrial machine and/or components of the machine. One or more error messages and accompanying circumstances are stored in a message diagnosis unit together with the accompanying error recovery measure(s). If one or more known errors are repeated, the stored error recovery measures are immediately and automatically accessed and the proven error recovery measures are transmitted to the respective machine. This provides a method for message diagnosis which improves error handling.

    • A signal processor, for use with a zero crossing module of a vortex flow meter, includes a peak amplitude detector, a comparator, and a filter module. The filter module is enabled when the comparator determines that the amplitude is less than a low flow rate threshold. The filter module filters a vortex signal and the filtered signal is provided to a frequency estimator that uses a zero crossing algorithm. The signal processor may increase the signal-to-noise ratio at low flow rates for which the frequency estimator may not otherwise be able to accurately estimate the flow rate. Low flow rates may be measured by determining that there is a low flow rate using amplitude detection of a vortex signal, filtering the vortex signal based on the amplitude detection, and using a zero crossing algorithm on the filtered vortex signal.

    • A method of intercepting application program interface, including dynamic installation of associated software, within the user portion of an operating system. An API interception control server in conjunction with a system call interception module loads into all active process spaces an API interception module. An initializer module within the API interception module hooks and patches all API modules in the active process address space. When called by the application programs, the API routines' flow of execution, by virtue of their patched code, is re-directed into a user-supplied code in a pre-entry routine of the API interception module. The API routine might be completely by-passed or its input parameters might be filtered and changed by the user code. During the operation, the API routine is double-patched by the API interception module to ensure that all simultaneous calls to the API routine will re-direct its flow of control into the API interception module. A user-supplied code in a post-entry module of the API interception module might filter or change the return values of the API.

    • To provide a method whereby unauthorized data access by an RFID data processing system is prohibited without any degradation of performance being incurred. An RFID data processing system 30 comprises a CPU 35, a EEPROM 34, communication devices 31 and 32, and power controllers 40 and 41. When an RFID data processing system 30 in the power-ON state that does not have access authorization passes through a portal gate located at the entrance to an unauthorized data access protection area, the portal gate transmits a signal to set ON a tamper bit 44 in the EEPROM 34. When the tamper bit 44 has been set ON, a tamper bit interrupt request signal is output by the EEPROM 34. Upon receiving this signal, the power controllers 40 and 41 power off the RFID data processing system 30.

    • The present invention software driven protocol for managing a virtual clinical neuro-psychological testing program delivers, to individual or small groups of certified Neuro-psychology professionals, an interface protocol for clinically monitoring and managing the neuro-psychological needs of very large numbers of individual patients. The preferred approach to such monitoring and testing, is within the scope of normal and routine activities. These patients are most often in need of regular testing, screening, and monitoring and, only occasionally, of referral or intervention. The protocol provides a majority of patients, with regular testing, screening, and monitoring services on a “virtual-out-patient” basis by interactively delivering individually configured batteries of tests to each patient; via the Internet. These tests include normal activity observation and monitoring. The delivery and respectively corresponding acceptance of the testing batteries is a substantially automatically scheduled feature of the protocol.
