摘要： An electromagnetic pump of the helical annular linear induction type has pumped flow along paths which lie both inside and outside pipes (21) passing through the pump annulus (14). The pipes may be sampling pipes of failed fuel element detection apparatus. A number of pumps according to the invention may be arranged in cascade with selected pipes passing in series through selected combinations of pumps in the cascade so that, with an appropriate energization of selected pumps, flow along one pipe can be created while flow along other pipes is prevented.

The chambers (12) are connected, on the one hand to a single vacuum pump installation (14), by low conductance elements (18) offering great resistance to the passage of molecules, and on the other hand, to a device (23) for measuring the parameter common to the set of chambers (12) by a selector (20) allowing each of the chambers (12) to be put in communication successively with the device (23) for measuring the parameter. The invention is particularly suited for measurement of the hydrogen content of the liquid sodium in a steam generator of a fast neutron nuclear reactor.

摘要： A diffusion tube hydrogen meter for improving the sensitivity and response time for the measurement of hydrogen in liquid sodium. The improved hydrogen meter has a composite membrane composed of pure nickel sleeve fitted, for example, over a 2 1/4 Cr-1 Mo steel or niobium diffusion tube. Since the hydrogen permeation rate through 2 1/4 Cr-1 Mo steels is a factor of four higher than pure nickel, and the permeation rate of hydrogen through niobium is two orders of magnitude greater than the 2 1/4 Cr-1 Mo steel, this results in a decrease in response time and an increase in the sensitivity.

摘要： A method is disclosed for determining the concentration of fission products in the reactor coolant of a liquid metal cooled nuclear reactor. Reactor coolant is bypassed at constant temperatures and constant velocity through a flow sampling system containing a sampling tube. After a period of time, the sampling tube is isolated and removed from the bypass system; the liquid metal coolant is removed from the tube; and, the radionuclides deposited on the sampling tube are measured by gamma spectroscopy. The concentration of fission products in the reactor coolant is then determined from the measured radioactivity of the deposited nuclides.

摘要： A device for and method of measuring hydrogen concentration in liquid sodium to detect water leaks into the sodium. A thin-wall, tubular, annealed nickel probe in contact with liquid sodium is connected to an ion pump. A vacuum is created within said nickel probe by the ion pump, causing hydrogen atoms in the liquid sodium to diffuse through the wall of the probe and be drawn into the ion pump wherein the hydrogen atoms are ionized. The current generated within the ion pump by the ionization of hydrogen atoms is measured, this current being indicative of the hydrogen concentration in the liquid sodium.

摘要： A method for suppressing a pyrophoric metal fire may include arranging a suppression system above a containment structure. The suppression system includes a first extinguishing agent. The containment structure is configured to contain and isolate a pyrophoric metal from ambient air. The suppression system is configured to activate upon a leak and ignition of the pyrophoric metal so as to release the first extinguishing agent to suppress the pyrophoric metal fire.
