摘要： An extensible slit sheet paper product is produced having an expandable slit pattern that forms open cells upon expansion of the paper product. The paper product is an extensible paper having an extensibility in the range from 1-9% in the machine direction and 1-5% in the cross direction. The expansion produces an array of hexagonal cells. The expanded extensible paper can be used to wrap an object for shipping by wrapping and cushioning the object in the expanded slit sheet material. The extensible, expandable slit sheet paper can be wrapped around itself to produce a void fill product.

摘要： In the preferred embodiments, a paper cushioning product is provided that includes: a sheet of slit paper having a slit pattern, the slit pattern upon expansion forming cells that include land regions that are inclined with respect to a plane of an unexpanded sheet; the sheet of slit paper being configured such that expanding the sheet of slit paper with said slits produces land regions that have angles of inclination from the plane of the unexpanded sheet, with said land regions alternating on a row by row basis in forward and backward directions such that the slit pattern upon expansion includes an alternating cell opening pattern wherein each row opens in an opposite direction from an adjacent row. In preferred embodiments, the product further includes at least one of a) said sheet of slit paper is extensible paper that is extensible in a machine direction in a range of at least 3% and/or b) said sheet of slit paper includes slits configured such that upon expansion the slit sheet paper expands into an alternating row expansion pattern.

The module is a collar formed from slitted and expanded metal net and is adapted to fit in the annular space between the oil production pipe and the outer casing of the oil well, to prevent oxygen from the atmosphere from entering the annular space at the top of the well, and to exclude hydrocarbon vapors from the subterranean production zone from entering the annular space at the bottom of the well. The invention also relates to methods for extinguishing a burning oil well.

The invention has special applicability to containers for flammable materials, scientific instruments, or other fragile mechanisms or articles which may be damaged or become hazardous when ruptured. The impact absorber comprises a layer or layers of expanded metal net made from magnesium alloy foil having a thickness in the range from about 0.02 to 0.50 mm. A preferred embodiment comprises a contained layer or layers of nested spheroids formed from expanded metal sheets made from magnesium foil.

摘要： The invention concerns a package padding and an apparatus for forming same. The package padding is continuous and web-like and formed of superimposed paper courses (1,2,3). On the substantial surface area of one paper course (2) has with a pair of shaping rolls (16,17) been embossed a cellular padding structure. The package padding comprises a punch joint region (5) formed with the aid of a pair of punch joint rolls (18,19), and an intact area (7) substantially free of punchings, the package padding being more bulky and fluffy in the region thereof than in the punch joint region (5). In the embossed paper course (2) have by means of the speed differential of the punching rolls (18,19) and the shaping rolls (16,17) been folded pleats (8) so that the package padding contains per unit length of the package padding a greater length of paper material of the second paper course (2) than of paper material of the first paper course (1).

摘要： A cardboard pack for eggs, or the like, is made of two slitted blanks, the longer one of which is bent into flat-topped and flat-bottomed waves. After the wave bottoms are bonded by adhesive to the flat blank, the wave tops are tucked in and the waves flattened mechanically. After the adhesive bonding, the solid cross-strips at the ends of the flat blanks become unnecessary and are cut off. Precautions are taken to avoid undesired adhesion of strips previously separated by slitting. With the waves flattened, the blanks can be easily stored or transported. The blanks are set up at the place of filling by mechanically raising the waves, bending up the sides of the back to form pockets, inserting the goods, bending over the top strips, and securing them together on their line of abutment. The shorter set of blanks is preprinted.

摘要： Apparatus for positioning partitions in a container to form compartments to receive articles comprises first and second assemblies, each of the assemblies comprising a support and a plurality of mandrels secured to the support, extending generally from the support in a given direction towards the container bottom, and terminating in heads adapted to align and straighten the partitions in the container to form compartments for the receipt of articles. A drive mechanism moves one of the assemblies in said given direction toward and away from the container bottom, and the first and second assemblies are secured together in a manner enabling at least limited relative motion therebetween in said given direction. The mandrels of the first assembly preferably are disposed inwardly of the mandrels of the second assembly in the thus-produced mandrel pattern, and the first assembly mandrel heads normally extend further towards the container bottom than the second assembly mandrel heads.
