    • Card singularization gate for use in an identification card printer includes a roller support (90), a guide roller (92), and a card stop (94). The roller support is positioned between a card feeder (28) and the card transport mechanism (26).     • A printer (10) for identification cards has a supply of a plurality of individual intermediate transfer sheets (14) that have a separable layer (50) on which printing can take place. The sheets (14) are passed across a printhead (18) for printing images on a surface (22) of the layer (50), and then an identification card (32) from a suitable supply (34) is positioned to overlie the printed intermediate transfer sheet. The intermediate transfer sheet (14) and the identification card (32) are then passed through a laminator (41) where the layer (50) carrying the printing is laminated to a surface of the card (32). The card (32) and the laminated intermediate transfer sheet (14) are then passed through a separator that will peel away a backing film (56) for the layer (50) carrying the printing, and the printed image will remain in place on the card (32).
