    • A graphics processing apparatus (2) performs tile based compositing operations. Tile metadata includes flag data (tfd), such as transparency and/or intensity flag data, indicating whether a given input graphics tile make less than a predetermined first threshold level of contribution or more than a second predetermined threshold level of contribution to a corresponding output graphics tile. For example, if an input graphics tile is transparent, then its reading from a memory (6) and/or subsequent processing may be suppressed. If a given input graphics tile is opaque, then any underlying input graphics tiles were are obscured may have their reading and/or further processing suppressed.

    • A method, an interconnect and a system for processing data is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: a) receiving a request to perform a data transaction between a master unit and a slave unit, b) receiving an indication of a quality of service requirement associated with said data transaction; c) determining an interconnect quality of service level achievable when transmitting said data transaction over the interconnect logic having regard to any other pending data transactions which are yet to be issued; d) determining a slave quality of service level achievable when responding to said data transaction once received by said slave unit from said interconnect logic; and e) determining whether the combined interconnect quality of service level and the slave quality of service level fails to achieve the quality of service requirement and, if so, reordering the pending data transactions to enable the quality of service requirement of each data transaction to be achieved. Hence, arbitration between data transactions occurs prior to those transactions being provided to the interconnect. It will be appreciated that this enables pending data transactions to be systematically reordered and the quality of service level for each of these reordered data transactions to be accurately calculated to ensure that the quality of service requirement for each of those data transactions is achieved. Accordingly, this enables all aspects of quality of service to be budgeted together and true end-to-end quality of service may be determined for each data transaction.

    • A method of processing a frame in a data processing system is provided,in which the frame comprises one or more frame regions that together form the frame, and each frame region is represented as one or more data values, with each data value being represented by a set of data. The method comprises, for at least one region of the frame, when a memory access operation is to be performed for the region of the frame, comparing(163)a portion of the data representing data values for the frame region(165) with a corresponding portion of the data representing the corresponding data values for a previous frame region(162), which is a frame region for which the memory access operation has been performed, to determine if the portion of the data representing the data values for the frame region is similar to the corresponding portion of the data representing the data values for the previous frame region, wherein the portion of the data representing the data values for a frame region comprises a sub-set of data(167a, 167b)from each set of data representing a data value of the data values for the frame region. In an embodiment, if the portion of the data representing the data values for the frame region is determined to be similar to the corresponding portion of the data representing the data values for the previous frame region, the memory access operation is omitted, or, if the portion of the data representing the data values for the frame region is determined not to be similar to the corresponding portion of the data representing the data values for the previous frame region, the memory access operation is performed(169).
