    • A rotary actuator (2900) includes a housing defining an arcuate chamber including a cavity, a fluid port in fluid communication with the cavity, and an open end. A rotor assembly includes an output shaft (2912) and a rotor arm (2914) extending outward. An arcuate- shaped piston is disposed in said housing for reciprocal movement in the arcuate chamber through the open end, wherein a seal, the cavity, and the piston define a pressure chamber, and a portion of the piston contacts the first rotor arm. A central actuation assembly (2960) includes a central mounting point (2964) formed in an external surface of the output shaft, said central mounting point proximal to the longitudinal midpoint of the shaft, and an actuation arm (2962) removably attached at a proximal end to the central mounting point, said actuation arm adapted at a distal end for attachment to an external mounting feature of a member to be actuated.

    • Apparatus (10) for providing actuation power to an aircraft flight control surface. The apparatus includes a first actuator (16) and a second actuator(13), where the second actuator has a bypass mode and an assist mode. The mode of the second actuator is determined by an internal differential pressure across the first actuator. The apparatus further includes a mode select valve (40) for selecting between the bypass mode and the assist mode for the second actuator, and a solenoid valve (48) that when energized causes the mode select valve (40) to select the other mode for the second actuator. When the second actuator is in the bypass mode, the first actuator provides the actuation power for the aircraft flight control surface. But, when the second actuator is in the assist mode, both the first and second actuators provide the actuation power for the aircraft flight control surface. Accordingly, the apparatus allows the flight control surface to be operated in a more efficient manner with less hydraulic flow being required.

    • A rotary actuator includes a housing, a first piston housing assembly comprising a first cavity and an open end, a rotor assembly rotatably journaled in said housing and comprising a rotary output shaft (3310) and a first rotor arm (3312) extending radially outward from the rotary output shaft to a first distal end comprising one or more first retainers (3380, 3382), and an arcuate-shaped first piston (3350) disposed in said housing for reciprocal movement in the first piston housing assembly through the open end along a radius of curvature. A first portion of the first piston connects to the first rotor arm at a first end portion comprising one or more second retainers. The first retainers and the second retainers are intermeshed along the radius of curvature such that movement of the rotor assembly urges movement of the first piston and movement of the first piston urges movement of the rotor assembly.
