    • A method and a circuit device control insertion and storage of digital information in a memory and retrieval of the information from the memory. The method and circuit device ensure the digital information is correctly read out of the memory in the form of a number of coordinated bit positions, and the digital information is used to control one or several functions. The information intended to be inserted into the memory is given an address belonging to the memory. First control-sum-carrying bit positions are calculated from the bit positions of the digital information and their values coming into the memory according to a selected evaluation function. The bit positions of the digital information are stored in an address within the memory, and the first control-sum-carrying bit positions are stored in an address within a control memory. Second control-sum-carrying bit positions are calculated when the bit positions of the digital information stored in the address in the memory are read out according to the selected evaluation function. The bit positions of the read information, and their values, are accepted as correct, and a circuit is activated through a signal on a conductor, if a following comparison between the first and second control-sum-carrying bit positions shows that they are identical.

    • A lap top navigation instrument, suitable for aircraft, includes a chart compartment covered by a transparent window containing a liquid crystal display as part of the window through which a conventional map or chart in the compartment can be viewed and a computer whereby an image can be generated in the display above the chart in the compartment and, through inputs to the computer from the aircraft's instruments, the computer generated image in the display will be continuously repositioned above the surface of the chart so as pilot using the device has a continuous visual indication of the position of his aircraft over the topography depicted on the chart in the compartment. Directional components may be added to the image giving the pilot additional information in reference to the heading of the aircraft relative to the chart's display of "North" showing how the image is actually tracking over the chart in the compartment. Further, in this device, the chart in the compartment is always visible to the pilot though the window. Should the instrument fail a pilot continues to have access to all the flight information contained on the chart without interruption. As a result, the instrument is very useful for instrument flight rules [IFR] procedures and instrument approaches for landings in that it is failsafe.

    • The power engine includes at least two separate fluid-tight enclosures. A solid mass is associated with each enclosure. A coupling rigidly interconnects the enclosures. A pivot shaft defines an axis of rotation and pivotally supports the engine for rotation from a first position, whereat a first enclosure is located at a first level above the axis of rotation, to a second position, whereat the first enclosure is located at a second level below the axis of rotation. A motive fluid is enclosed within each enclosure whose pressure varies in response to temperature changes. Each solid mass is movable in response to a pressure change in its associated enclosure. The engine is responsive to alternating thermal effects which cause alternating variations in the pressures of the enclosures resulting in alternating shifts of the center of gravity of the engine, thereby rotating the engine about the axis of rotation.
