PURPOSE: A herbicide composition that contains a combination of oxadiazon and paraquat, thus developing synergism to show excellent herbicidal effect by both soil and foliage treatments without chemical injury to useful crops. CONSTITUTION: Oxadiazon known as a soil-treating agent to show excellent herbicidal effect on a variety of pre-emergence weeds [=5-tert.-butyl-3-(2,4-dichloro- 5-isopropoxyphenyl)-1,3,4-oxadiazolin-2-one] is combined with paraquat known as a foliage-treating agent after emergence (=1,1'-dimethyl-4,4'-bipyridilium dichloride) at a weight ratio of 1:8W8:1. In particular, the development of the foliage treatment effect is accelerated and it is suitably used as a nonselective herbicide in agriculture, horticulture and forestry, further in other fields such as railways or parks. PURPOSE: To provide a herbicide containing an unsaturated carboxylic acid derivative having triple bond or its functional salt as an active component, effective especially for the control of annual weeds such as daisy fleabane, large crab- grass, etc., and harmless to the crop such as rice. CONSTITUTION: The objective herbicide contains 0.1W95wt% of the compound of formula I [R 1 is straight or branched chain aliphatic hydrocarbon group having at least one triple bond; R 2 is -XR 3 (X is O or S; R 3 is H or 1W10C hydrocarbon group) or group of formula II (R 4 and R 5 are H, 1W10C hydrocarbon group or together form a ring)] (e.g. 2-n-octynic acid) or its functional salt. Since the above active component exhibits both water-soluble and oil-soluble properties, it has excellent herbicidal activity either by foliar treatment or soil treatment, above all, the foliar treatment is especially effective.
