101 Methods and apparatus for polishing seal surfaces in a nuclear reactor US541613 1995-10-10 US5690541A 1997-11-25 Charles Arthur Dalke
Methods and apparatus for polishing seal surfaces in a nuclear reactor are described. One embodiment of the apparatus includes a universal joint which has a universal joint housing and a drive shaft extending therefrom. A polishing plate is secured to the universal joint housing. A working surface of the polishing plate is configured to polish the seal surfaces. The seal surfaces of incore monitor housings and valves may, for example, be polished using various embodiments of the apparatus.
102 Method for precision-grinding a bezel at the inlet bore a workpiece US357123 1994-12-15 US5601476A 1997-02-11 Rainer Maier; Rudolf Koenigswieser
A method for precision-grinding a bezel at the inlet of a bore of a workpiece, comprising the following steps:a. generating a bezel at the inlet of the bore of the workpiece by grinding the workpiece at the inlet of the bore with a first grinding tool into a first shape defining an angle correspondingly slightly greater than a desired nominal angle;b. honing the bore to generate a honed bore; andc. again grinding the bezel to its nominal shape by means of a second grinding tool, while simultaneously guiding the second grinding tool in the honed bore by means of a pilot.
103 Fabricating internal combustion engine cylinder heads with close tolerance internal surfaces US450715 1989-12-14 US4934351A 1990-06-19 Barry E. Shepley
An internal combustion engine which is provided with a cylinder head structure possessing truer finished surfaces and which incorporates unsmeared porosity in such surfaces to act as reservoirs for lubrication; as a result the design gap with the valve stem can be closer for improved lubrication.
104 Grinding apparatus US473589 1983-03-09 US4545152A 1985-10-08 Hans Grimm
The grinding apparatus permits precision machining of a valve seat or a sealing surface, and includes a grinding spindle having a holding and guiding part extending into a finished workpiece bore with clearance. The holding and guiding part is smaller in diameter than the grinding spindle and includes a pin which carries on its free end a grinding tool. The other end of the pin passes into the grinding spindle which has a substantially larger diameter. The grinding spindle is located outside the bore of the workpiece and may thus be made very stable. The pin is held by the grinding spindle so that the workpiece is held and guided securely even in the case of very small workpiece diameters.
105 Valve seat grinding device and tool for using same US343824 1982-01-29 US4467566A 1984-08-28 Joseph F. Ondrus, Jr.; John J. Schimweg
A tool and a grinding member for installing thereon comprising a support structure having inner and outer portions journaled for relative rotational movement, a guide member for mounting on an object having a surface to be ground, the guide member having a cylindrical portion that extends from the object in a position centered on the axis of the surface to be ground, the inner portion of the support structure having a surface for making sliding engagement with the cylindrical guide portion, a work engaging member for mounting on the outer portion of the support structure in position to engage the surface to be ground when the tool is moved axially along the cylindrical portion of the guide member, the work engaging member having a surface portion contoured to the desired shape of the surface to be ground and having surface grooves formed therein at spaced locations extending thereacross, and a layer of relatively hard, wear resistant materials and a binder formed on the contoured surface of the work engaging member.
106 Grinding machines US3594962D 1969-05-07 US3594962A 1971-07-27 CHRISTENSSON STIG OSKAR
A grinding machine for grinding of valve seats in marine engines. The object of the invention is to provide a machine that is able to grind with sufficient accuracy for the pressures and temperatures at which marine engines operate and to provide a machine which at the same time is easy to apply and to operate. This has been achieved thereby that the machine is provided with a frame which is rotatable about a shaft adapted to be arranged in a valve stem bore and carries an arm which is mounted to be displaceable in an inclined track which is arranged in the frame and extends in a plane coinciding with the longitudinal direction of the shaft, the said arm carrying a holder for a grinding wheel and a driving motor associated with the said wheel, and also being displaced by means of a screw-threaded spindle which is mounted to be rotatable but axially nondisplaceable in the frame, the said screw-threaded spindle being provided at its upper end with a conveniently removable handle for turning the frame about the shaft, means being provided for converting a relative movement, brought about on rotation of the frame by means of the handle, between the frame and the screw-threaded spindle into a displacement of the arm, so that the grinding wheel, depending on the direction of rotation of the frame, is displaced either obliquely upwards and outwards or downwards and inwards in the direction from or towards the shaft.

118 SUPPORT DEVICE FOR VALVE SEAT LAPPING DEVICE JP2001129878 2001-04-26 JP2002326149A 2002-11-12 YONEKURA NORIYUKI; SAWANO AKIHIRO; ITO YUKIO; NAKAYAMA TAKUMI; MINAMI YOSHINAKA
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To support a support device for a lapping device stably on a flange portion of a valve easing, facilitate and simplify an arranging and removing operation of a device body, and remarkably facilitate a setting operation and an adjusting operation of the device body, in a lapping operation of a valve seat surface in the valve easing. SOLUTION: A left-right pair of bearing holders are set on a flange portion of a valve easing. On a substantially middle portion of a cross rod passed between the bearing holders, a mounting fitting for clamping and supporting intermediate case parts of a valve seat lapping device is swingably pivoted. A bearing socket housed in a holder case of the bearing holders is supported for reciprocation by threading by an adjusting bolt, and a top opening of the holder case is closed by a lid plate in an openable relation. A holder plate of the bearing holders has notched engaging jaws, and a bolt passed through the flange portion of the valve easing is engaged with the engaging jaws to fixedly tighten them. A bearing fitting threaded on a substantially middle portion of a threaded rod body is supported axially movably by an adjusting nut.
