The invention relates to an anchoring dowel (11) for joining two bodies (7, 8). The dowel is composed of two contacting half-dowels (11a, 11b) whose opposing faces (13a, 13b ) are helical surfaces twisting in opposite directions. The projecting ends of the half-dowels are thus mutually spread apart with respect to contact zones (19a, 19b), which are compressed by the joined bodies (7, 8) so ensuring the anchoring of the dowel.

A device for machining elongate rods has a feed means defined by a track and a plurality of V belts which feeds the rods in an uninterrupted succession one behind the other in a feed direction transverse to their longitudinal axes. The track defines a an arc of a circle adjacent the machine tools which is parallel to the circular machining path of cutting elements of the machine tools.

169 DOWEL CUTTER AND SIZER GB8430814 1984-12-06 GB2151182A 1985-07-17 BROWN KENNETH LEROY
A dowel cutting method and apparatus comprising a stationary cutting tool having an internal bore and at least one cutting edge at its input end into which woodstock is disposed while being rotated by an electric hand drill or the like to create a finished dowel at the opposite end of the cutting tool. The cutting tool may be held in a bench vise. A sizer for dowels is also disclosed comprising a series of holes in a flat metal plate having a ground side which cuts down a dowel in a sequence of operations, if needed, to an accurate smaller dowel. A simple final sanding operation is also disclosed utilizing sandpaper and the sizing apparatus.

173 Multiple end chamfered dowel cutting machine - has guide battens, revolving belt cutting discs on shaft, and saw shaft DE2822771 1978-05-24 DE2822771A1 1979-12-06 PAULI SEN JOSEF
A series of curved guiding battens (3) are arranged in a frame pattern at intervals corresponding to dowel length. Each has a pressure and guide belt (7) running continuously on its convex side, and a cutter shaft (13) with corresponding number of cutting discs (12) on its concave side. A cutting disc engages between each pair of battens with its inverted V-shaped workingprofile. A saw shaft (23), with corresponding number of saw blades (22) also has these passing between each pair of battens, in the direction of circulation of the wooden bars being made into end-dowelled dowel plugs, behind the shaft. Each saw blade is aligned in the same plane as the appropriate cutting disc.

175 A method of and a machine for the manufacture of dowels GB3412855 1955-11-29 GB788574A 1958-01-02
788,574. Cutting and compressing wood. KUNDSEN, N. B. Nov. 29, 1955, No. 34128/55. Class 145. Round rods are cut into dowel lengths by means of rotary spaced cutting discs 9 and the ends of the dowels are simultaneously compressed to a chamfered shape by conical discs 10 on each side of the cutting discs. The rods are fed into the discs by an adjustable guard 1 eccentric to the axis of the disc or, in a modification, are pressed by a spring-loaded piston into the gap between the discs and an adjustable roller driven at a lower speed than the cutting discs. The guard or roller has a chequered surface so that the rods rotate during cutting and so that the dowels are knurled on their peripheries and, to ensure rotation of the rods, shallow grooves are provided across the cutting edges of the discs. A finger 34 removes any dowels that may have jammed between the discs.

693,271. Turning. HEID, H. Nov. 27, 1951 [Oct. 15, 1951], No. 27841/51. Class 83 (iii). [Also in Group XXIII] Apparatus for producing wooden rods suitable for dowels comprises a carrier mounted on a hollow driving spindle to which is secured, on the side opposite the driving spindle, a hollow cylindrical cutter on the rotational axis of the carrier, and on the other side rotary knurling tools so that a wooden rod fed through the cutter is first turned to size and then knurled. A carrier a having three arms a1 and a boss a2 has the latter connected to the rotatable spindle b of a machine. A hollow cutter c is secured to the front portion of the disc while at the rear a number of knurling tools e are arranged around the axis of the carrier freely rotatable on pivots d. A wooden rod f, of square section, is introduced through a guide member B and is turned by the cutter c to diameter, the rod being subsequently knurled by the tools e. The latter may be arranged with their axes on the skew so that the knurling is of helical form or intersecting. The skew arrangement may also be used to feed the rod through the device.

652,876. Wood, trenching. NEILSON, A. Oct. 21, 1947. No. 28092. Drawings to Specification. [Class 145(i)] [Also in Group XXII] At the delivery end of a machine for turning wooden dowel rods (see Group XXII), the rod passes between a pair of horizontal rollers having sharpened rims or flanges so as to cut longitudinal grooves on diametrically-opposite sides of the rod.
