The invention relates to an anchoring dowel (11) for joining two bodies (7, 8). The dowel is composed of two contacting half-dowels (11a, 11b) whose opposing faces (13a, 13b ) are helical surfaces twisting in opposite directions. The projecting ends of the half-dowels are thus mutually spread apart with respect to contact zones (19a, 19b), which are compressed by the joined bodies (7, 8) so ensuring the anchoring of the dowel.

88 DOWEL CUTTER AND SIZER GB8430814 1984-12-06 GB2151182B 1987-04-23 BROWN KENNETH LEROY
A dowel cutting method and apparatus comprising a stationary cutting tool having an internal bore and at least one cutting edge at its input end into which woodstock is disposed while being rotated by an electric hand drill or the like to create a finished dowel at the opposite end of the cutting tool. The cutting tool may be held in a bench vise. A sizer for dowels is also disclosed comprising a series of holes in a flat metal plate having a ground side which cuts down a dowel in a sequence of operations, if needed, to an accurate smaller dowel. A simple final sanding operation is also disclosed utilizing sandpaper and the sizing apparatus.

92 Method and cutter for producing boat-shaped wooden patches and matching cutouts in wooden parts to be repaired DE3140296 1981-10-10 DE3140296A1 1983-04-28 VETTER GUENTHER; WIESER HERMANN
The method for producing boat-shaped wooden patches and matching cutouts in wooden parts to be repaired consists in first producing the wooden patches with the aid of a face cutter. Using the face cutter a workpiece is cut so that a curved cutout base results which is severed from the workpiece along a plane. This results in a small piece with a curve provided on one side. This small piece can be cut up by severing cuts into boat-shaped wooden patches. Cutouts, which correspond in their shape and in their dimensions to the boat-shaped wooden patches, are produced in the wooden part to be repaired at the damaged points by means of a grooving cutter. The repair takes place by inserting the wooden patches into these cutouts. The cutters used to carry out the method can have cutting edges extending in a circular arc; the cutting edges can, however, also form a straight line rising towards the median axis of the cutter.

A straddling dowel includes at least a pair of shell members each having a first contact surface and a second contact surface. The first contact surfaces are disposed in contact with one another and extend in parallel with the axis of the dowel and the second contact surfaces are disposed in contact with one another and extend helically relative to the axis of the dowel. The first and second contact surfaces extend for substantially the entire axial length of the shell members.

724,886. Woodworking machinery; sawing. NIELSEN, R. A. Oct. 5, 1953 [Oct. 9, 1952], No. 27259/53. Class 145. A machine for dividing round sticks 23 into chamfered dowels comprises a pair of endless belts 8, 15 with parallel runs spaced apart by the diameter of the dowels 24a to be cut and one belt is driven at a greater speed than and in the opposite direction to the other belt, the sticks thus being moved forward and at the same time rotated so that fixed trimming cutters 19 form annular grooves in the sticks and then fixed inclined saws 20 part off the dowels 24a. The upper belt 8 is of substantially the same width as driving drums 6, 7 and the lower belt is comprised by a series of V- belts 15 running on pulleys 13, 14, both belts being supported at the working position by members 16, 17 and the upper drums 6, 7 and the member 16 being vertically adjustable to suit sticks of different diameters. The trimming cutters 19 are dovetailed into carriers 18 fitted between the lower belts 15 and the saws 20 are fitted in a central groove in the trimming cutters. Lateral adjustment of the pulleys and the carriers 18 is provided in order that dowels of any desired length may be cut.
