The invention relates to an electrolytic resistor comprising a water-repellent insulating tube through which there flows an alkaline solution containing a suspension of zinc. The positive end of the resistor has a metallic grid suitable for trapping the zinc particles, and the negative end has either an air electrode or a ring made of a metal having, more especially, high hydrogen supertension, this ring itself possibly having holes or projections suitable for promoting the progressive deposition of zinc dendrites. The invention is used in zinc-air storage cells.
127 POLYPHASE FLUID RESISTANCE APPARATUS GB971575 1975-03-07 GB1498844A 1978-01-25
1498844 Liquid resistors SIEMENS AG 7 March 1975 [28 March 1974] 9715/75 Heading H1S A polyphase liquid resistor has one eletrolytic cell per phase, each cell comprising a housing of welded plates of a plastics material, the welds bordering on fluid-free outer areas and the housing having an at least partial top cover and being open at one side. In Figs. 1 and 3, being side elevation section and plan views, respectively, each cell 2 comprises side and/or partition walls 8, 9, rear wall 6 and base wall 7, the walls 8, 9 extending beyond the periphery of the container so formed. The front of each container has a flange and is connected thereby to a common chamber 3 of sheet iron and containing a cooler 4. The front wall of each container has orifices 10, 11 for electrolyte flow and a flow guide 12. Fixed electrodes (not shown) are provided on each rear wall and the partially open cover 13 has gaps 14 for insertion of movable electrodes and their control members. The cell assembly and the movable electrodes may be supported in an external frame. The partition between each cell may, when walls 8 and 9 each comprise several plates welded into one, comprise a pair of parallel plates with supporting spacers therebetween and enclosing an air gap thereby keeping these plate welds fluid free. In the case of single cells immersed in an electrolyte tank, the welds may be surrounded by fluid free chambers walled also with plastics plates which are welded both to each other and to the cell body outer parts. Pressure pressed plates of polypropylene or low-pressure polyethylene are preferred, having isotropic thermal expansion properties.
128 MULTI-PHASE FLOW RESISTANCE APPARATUS ZA751735 1975-03-19 ZA751735B 1976-05-26 RABUS K
In a polyphase liquid rheostat cells for separately accommodating adjustable electrodes with the cells filled with an electrolyte, covered at the top and open at one end face, are formed from electrically nonconducting plastic sheets which are welded together in a liquid tight manner with the welds arranged, at least in the zones which are subject to voltage stresses, so that they are adjacent only to external spaces which are free of liquid thereby preventing an electrical short circuit between cells of different phases in the case of a leak in the welded seam.

Liquid resistor apparatus in which a conductive liquid presents an adjustable electrical resistance between two immersed electrodes, adjustment being made by raising or lowering the level of the liquid, the level of the electrodes or the level of a partition between the electrodes. The raising and lowering is effected by a mechanical linkage which is coupled to a bellows or piston actuated by vapor from a controllable vapor generator.

137 HIGH-RESISTIVITY LIQUID RESISTANCE GB14068 1968-01-01 GB1202151A 1970-08-12 ICRE PIERRE
1,202,151. Liquid resistances. COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE. 1 Jan., 1968 [13 Jan., 1967], No. 140/68. Heading H1S. A liquid resistance comprises a non-polar solvent in which is dissolved an organic acid, some of which is then neutralized by the addition of a base, the salt produced being soluble in said solvent. The initial acid concentration is preferably between 2 M and 10-2 M, sufficient of the base being added for the ratio of non- neutralized acid to salt to lie between 0À7 and 1À3, resulting in a resistivity between 107 and 1011 #-/cm. Preferred acids are trichloroacetic, succinic, oxalic and picric acids, added to the solvent in a crystalline anhydrous form. Preferred solvents are carbon tetrachloride, benzene and dioxane, with diethylamine as the base. The liquid is enclosed in a sealed glass ampoule 2 encased in insulating material 4. The electrodes comprise platinum spheres 3 connected to platinum contacts 5.
