    • PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To appropriately mesh a pinion with a ring gear and quickly satisfy a request for a start from a driver.SOLUTION: An ECU 40 stops combustion in an engine 20 to thereby automatically perform an engine stop when a predetermined automatic stop condition is satisfied. After the automatic stop condition is satisfied and when a predetermined restart condition is satisfied, power is transmitted from a pinion 14 to a ring gear 25 to thereby restart the engine 20. Also, at the time of the automatic engine stop, if it is determined that the restart condition is satisfied in a rotation drop period during which the rotation of the engine is dropped, the ECU 40 starts combustion in the engine 20 in a pre-power transmission period which is a period from when a move of the pinion 14 toward the ring gear 25 is started until a power transmission from the pinion 14 to the ring gear 25 is started.
