摘要： Disclosed is a head-mount type display apparatus having an optical system which is of the back-irradiation type by which the user can see an extremely high-quality video image and by which the user makes only in-focus adjustment thereby improving operation convenience. The head-mount type display apparatus includes at least two optical systems each including a light source, a LCD through which the light from the light source is passed, a reflecting plate which reflects the light passing through the LCD, a screen on the back side of which the reflected light from the reflecting plate is focused to form an image and a lens by which the light from the screen is focused to form an image at a viewing point, and a head-mount type member for supporting the two optical systems which are opposed to left and right eyes. According to the preferred embodiment, interference and distortion in the projected images arising from the image of the edges of the LCDs is substantially reduced.

摘要： A driver training system for a user of a simulated vehicle. The system includes input devices for controlling the simulated vehicle, a video display having three dimensional graphics, a computer, modeling software for determining position information based on the input devices, atmospheric effects software to simulate time-of-day and weather conditions, and realistic operating feedback software for simulating on the input devices the feedback normally experienced with operating the vehicle. One aspect of the preferred embodiment is a system including a low frequency speaker mounted on an enclosure adjacent to the simulation user's seat through which road feel cues such as hitting an object are transmitted to the user in response to signals received from the computer. Another aspect of the invention is the a system for simulating the feel to the user of anti-lock brakes on a brake pedal in response to signals received the computer.

摘要： A panoramic image based virtual reality display system includes a panoramic optical assembly, preferably of substantially spherical coverage, feeding composite optical images to a light sensitive surface of a video camera for storage or further processing in image processing circuitry. Such image processing circuitry includes a special effects generator and image segment circuitry to divide a composite image into a plurality of image segments or sub-segments for display on individual displays of multiple video display assemblies. Such a multiple video display assembly preferably includes a closed structure having individual display units mounted in all viewable directions therein, with segments of the composite image displayed on respective display units to recreate the panoramic view gathered by the panoramic optical assembly. The image processing circuitry may also select a portion or portions of the composite image for display on one or two displays of a head mounted display unit.

摘要： A video controlling and viewing system has a tiltable platform which supports a chair in spaced relation to a console that has a video screen; and a user seated on that chair can manipulate the control element of that console to simultaneously (a) move the views on the video screen up and down and also rotate them in the clockwise or counterclockwise direction and (b) tilt the platform oppositely of the movement of the views on that video screen. The programming means for the console is independent of the driving means for the platform to some extent but the control element of the console will cause the view on the screen to shift in one direction while the platform is tilted in the opposite direction. Cables, drums and motors are used to tilt the platform while views are being displayed on the video screen, and they automatically return the platform to a "home" position at the conclusion of the displaying of those views. That platform is then locked in position until it is unlocked when a further sequence of views is to be displayed on the video screen.

摘要： This disclosure describes a method and apparatus for a visual display system in a vehicle simulator to compensate for distortion and to maximize illumination in a projected image substantially at the same time. Where a spherical mirror is interposed between a curved rear-projection screen and a viewing position, certain distortions are developed which detract from realism. Such distortions are compensated for by reflecting the image off a curve folding mirror positioned so that its major axis is substantially perpendicular to the major axis of the curved rear-projection screen. In accordance with the invention, when such compensation is achieved, the illumination of the projected image will be at substantially its brightest.

摘要： A terrain model board and method of construction for use with the closed circuit television display system of a vehicle simulator is disclosed. According to this invention a multiplicity of panels containing the detail of a simulated terrain are joined together in a manner which allows quick and easy disassembly of one or all of the panels. A packing strip having a cord secured to its top surface is inserted into the spaces between adjoining panels prior to filling the spaces or seams with an elastic and adhesive seam filling compound. Thus, one or more of the panels can easily be removed for repair or replacement by simply gripping the string and pulling it up and along the seam thereby cutting through the adhesive.
