    • An example method for collection and analysis of particles from a particle generating source enclosed within an enclosure having an inlet and an outlet is described. The method includes supplying filtered air into the enclosure through the inlet, extracting, with a vacuum source, an aerosol stream including particles from the particle generating source through the outlet, directing the aerosol stream from the outlet of the enclosure to the vacuum source via a sampling tower. The sampling tower includes at least one nozzle for sampling the aerosol stream. The method includes detecting, with a detection instrument coupled to the nozzle, at least one characteristic of the particles in the aerosol stream, and outputting data concerning the detected characteristic of the particles in the aerosol stream to a computing device.

    • A system and method for sampling fluid from a top land piston crevice of a reciprocating piston engine. Access into the crevice is via a bore through the piston wall. A collector receives sampled fluid from the piston crevice, and has a housing, a valve, and a shuttle. The housing is an elongated hollow shell having a bore through its length, with the bore containing the valve and the shuttle. The valve opens to allow sampled fluid to pass along the bore toward the shuttle, when the valve is in an open position. The shuttle serves two purposes: it moves back and forth within the bore, thereby opening the valve, and also provides passages for storing sampled fluid within the housing.

    • An apparatus is disclosed for facilitating spoilage detection in bulk grain storage bins via dust-free or substantially dust-free air sampling. Dust particles are passively removed from sampled air without the use of barrier filters or electrostatic screens, but instead through the use of a non-linear pathway that is open at one end and closed at the other end. A system is disclosed that incorporates a coiled pathway as an air inlet element combined with a carbon dioxide or other gas detector element to provide an integrated detector module suitable for permanent installation in a dusty bulk grain storage bin environment to provide spoilage gas measurements over time. The system may communicate data to a central data storage system via cellular telephone or long range radio frequency data transmission. Alerts and alarms are generated and transmitted electronically to users via email, SMS text, automated phone messages and other means.
