    • A pair of upper and lower radius rods are connected at their rear ends to upper and lower portions of a swingable link system which includes a knuckle and upper and lower control arms, and have their front ends interconnected and pivotally connected to a vehicle body through an elastic support member for vertical swinging movement, and an included angle between two straight lines connecting the pivoted point and respective rear end of the radius rods is set to be an acute angle. This enables application of a force to the elastic support member between the radius rods and the vehicle body to be distinguished from (a) when a braking force has been applied to the wheel and (b) when the longitudinal load has been applied to a central portion of the wheel. Thus, it is possible to provide a larger longitudinal compliance while insuring a caster rigidity of the suspension system, thereby satisfying both (a) a straight advancing property during braking and (b) a shock absorbing property during travelling on a bad road surface. Moreover, it is possible to improve the riding comfort during braking.

    • Disclosed is a strut type suspension for automobiles, consisting of a member for rotatably supporting a wheel, a lower control arm extending in the widthwise direction of a chassis and connected pivotably at its outer end to the support member, and a disc brake unit or internally expansible drum brake unit provided in the wheel. The disc brake unit is provided in its central portion with a recess opened to an inner side of the chassis, an outer end fixing portion of the lower control arm for connection to the support member being set in said recess so as to be close to the center line of ground contact of the wheel. In the above-mentioned strut type suspension for automobiles, which is provided with an internally expansible drum brake unit in a wheel, a support base to which an anchor block is fixed is formed on an inner side surface of a back plate of the drum brake unit so as to project inward therefrom, and a recess defined in an outer side surface of the back plate so as to deflect toward the projecting support base. An outer end fixing portion of the lower control arm, which is joined to the support member, is set in the recess so as to be close to the center line of ground contact of the wheel.

    • A suspension for vehicles. The suspension includes a knuckle arm for supporting a steerable road wheel of the vehicle, an upper arm jointed at one end with the upper end of the knuckle arm and pivotably connected at the other end to a body frame of the vehicle, a lower arm jointed at one end with the lower end of the knuckle arm and pivotably connected at the other end to the body frame, and a shock absorber cooperating with the upper arm and the lower arm for suspending, through the knuckle arm, the steerable road wheel from the body frame. The upper arm has its position displaced longitudinally of the vehicle with a space left, and the shock absorber is disposed in the space obtained by the longitudinal displacement of the upper arm.
