    • A brake pedal apparatus for a vehicle includes a pedal bracket provided on a dash panel, a pedal shaft provided on the pedal bracket, a pedal arm supported by the pedal shaft in a rotatable manner around the pedal shaft, a first engaging portion provided on the pedal arm, a push rod lever supported by the pedal shaft in a rotatable manner around the pedal shaft and connected to a push rod, and a second engaging portion provided on the push rod lever. The push rod lever or the pedal arm is movable along the axial direction of the pedal shaft, and the first and second engaging portions are capable of engaging with each other. The apparatus further includes a biasing member for biasing the push rod lever or the pedal arm in a direction for releasing the engagement between the first and second engaging portions, and a spacer member which, in a normal state, positions the push rod lever and the pedal arm, and which, at the time of collision, detects the collision for allowing movable one of the push rod lever and the pedal arm along the axial direction of the pedal shaft to release the engagement between the first and second engaging portions.

    • A brake pedal apparatus for a vehicle is provided with a pedal bracket having a pivot shaft, a pivot bracket having a pedal shaft, a pedal arm, a slide plate fixed to a body structural member of the vehicle and located between the body structural member and the pedal bracket, an impact absorbing section, and a rotational motion assisting section. The impact absorbing section permits relative movement of the pivot bracket and the body structural member in a longitudinal direction of the vehicle when the pedal bracket encounters an external force directed rearward of the vehicle at a level beyond a predetermined load, in such a manner that the pivot bracket disengages from the slide plate to allow the pivot bracket to rotate about the pivot shaft while rotating the pedal shaft therewith rearwardly downward of the vehicle. Also, the rotational motion assisting section is normally held in an inoperative position, and operable to be brought into abutting engagement with at least one of the body structural member and the slide plate to promote rotational movement of the pivot bracket about the pivot shaft caused by the impact absorbing section.

    • A brake pedal apparatus for an automotive vehicle is disclosed as including a pedal bracket 2, a pivot bracket 3, a slide plate 9 fixedly secured to a vehicular body structural member 41, 52, and an impact absorbing section 10 located between the pedal bracket and the slide plate. During a frontal collision of a vehicle, the impact absorbing section allows the pedal bracket to be contracted and deformed into a position wherein a pedal arm 8 is retracted in a forward direction of the vehicle whereby even when a master vac. is retracted in the forward direction or even when a dash floor panel 40 is deformed into a vehicle compartment with a resultant rearward movement of a push rod 24, a depressing position of the pedal arm remains in a position to avoid a differential feeling touch to be applied to a vehicle driver.
