摘要： A system and method for recovering the seed of a pseudo-random binary sequence (PRBS) using soft decisions is disclosed. In some implementations, a log-likelihood ratio is calculated to determine the certainty with which each bit in the seed has been recovered, and in some implementations, the value of the PRBS is used in the calculation of the log-likelihood ratio. In some implementations, a linear feedback shift register stores the log-likelihood ratio for each bit in the sequence.

摘要： On existing DVD and CD players a control loop is required for the adaptation and timing recovery. For Two-Dimensional Optical Storage such a control loop has drawbacks because PRML detection in the form of a stripe-wise Viterbi detector is used. Such a detector introduces an increasing detection delay when going from the outer rows towards the center of the broad spiral. A feedback loop is arranged to determining an error signal from a first area of the data block where the first area is that area where the error signal can be determined within the shortest period of time. This reduces the duration of the detection step and thus increases the stability of the control loop.

Reliability of the DFE decision is assessed to determine whether the DFE decision is at least one of i) reliable or ii) not reliable. When it is determined that the DFE decision is not reliable, a block of signal points of the plurality of signal points is processed using a Viterbi Detector (VD) to generate a block of VD decisions. The block of VD decisions is selected to be used in place of a block of DFE decisions.

摘要： The present invention relates to a method for synchronizing the signals coming from a set of data channels of a two dimensional optical read-out system. Said synchronization method comprises a step of cross-correlating the signals of a pair of adjacent channels for determining a relative phase delay between said adjacent channels. It also comprises a step of iterating the cross-correlation step for the different pair of adjacent channels of the set of data channels. It finally comprises a step of compensating for the relative phase delays thus obtained in order to align the signals from adjacent channels with each other. The present invention is based on, for example, the use of the optical cross talk existing between adjacent channels in a cross correlator that is able to determine the relative phase between two adjacent channels.
