    • There is disclosed a service provisioning system for use in a wireless network containing a group of base stations that communicate with mobile stations. The service provisioning system comprises: 1) a database for storing a service provisioning file comprising a mobile station service provisioning program in interpreted byte-code format; and 2) a provisioning controller coupled to the database that receives a notification indicating that a first mobile station is unprovisioned and, in response thereto retrieves the service provisioning file from the database and transmits the service provisioning file to the first mobile station. Receipt of the service provisioning file causes the mobile station to execute the mobile station service provisioning program in the service provisioning file. There also is disclosed a mobile station capable of being provisioned from a wireless network by an over-the-air (OTA) service provisioning process. The mobile station comprises 1) an RF transceiver that receives and demodulates forward channel messages from the wireless network and modulates and transmits reverse channel messages to the wireless network; and 2) a main controller that receives the demodulated forward channel messages from the RF transceiver and extracts therefrom a service provisioning file containing a mobile station service provisioning program in interpreted byte-code format. The main controller, in response to receipt of the service provisioning file, interprets and executes the interpreted byte-code application program.

    • A paste dispenser comprising an elongated tubular body having a central bore for containing a paste product therein with a dispensing outlet positioned at one end portion of the tube, a follower plate movably disposed within the bore of the tubular body at one end portion thereof, defining an end portion for containing paste contained within the tube. The initial position of the plate is at an opposite end of the tube from the outlet when the tube is filled with paste, a transverse plate is positioned at the end portion of the tubular body adjacent the outlet, and a rotatable drum is mounted on the tubular body at the transverse plate. A pivotally moving support is mounted at one end portion of the tubular body providing a gripping surface which can be manually forced to move the pivot between first and second positions, and a biasing spring for urging the pivot to assume the first position combines with a ratchet for urging a rotation of the drum in one rotational direction. An elongated length of cable is attached at one end portion to the follower plate and at its other end portion to the drum so that rotation of the drum winds the cable thereupon, applying tension to the cable for urging the follower plate towards the transverse plate to dispense product via the outlet.

    • A unique method and apparatus for efficiently assigning duplex radio channels and scanning duplex radio channels assigned to mobile and portable radiotelephones in a cellular communications system is described. Each cell includes a base station radio having a signalling channel and a plurality of voice channels, and a base site controller adapted to utilize the methods embodying the present invention for controlling communications paths to mobile and portable radiotelephones. The base station radios include a signalling transceiver operable on the signalling channel, a plurality of voice transceivers each operable on a voice channel, and a scanning receiver for sampling the signal strength of active radiotelephones. Transmitters of signalling transceivers and voice transceivers are combined and coupled to an omnidirectional antenna; and the receivers of the signalling transceiver, voice transceivers and scanning receiver are couplable to one or more of six sector antennas. In practicing the methods of the present invention, the microprocessor controlled base site controller maintains high quality communications paths to mobile and portable radiotelephones by periodically monitoring their signal strength and when signal strength degradations are detected, either changing the base station sector antennas coupled to voice transceivers, increasing or decreasing radiotelephone power output, or handing radiotelephones off to another cell.
